Plug welding it pretty easy - just make the holes big enough to get a good weld. 6 or 8 mm ish dia.

    Practice on the old panel.

Did you drill through both panels, or is there metal left on the car itself? If all the way through, you might want a lump of brass or copper at the back of the hole to stop you blowing a bigger holes as you fill the plug weld hole.

It's too far for me....but really doesn't sound like a lot of work. It looks like you have access to plug from behind in some places too from the existing holes you drilled (into the new panel)

Hardest bit I think is the alignment....but if you have some bolt holes you can use to locate the panel it shouldn't be too bad.

Full welds are often a creator of stress risers, why the heck do they ever allow civil servants to make desisions they aint nessarily got the knowledge of.?

If it's a genuine panel alignment will be easy enough as there will be location holes or notches on it. If you can get hold of a copy of the collision repair manual it will tell you how to locate the marks. Once you have done that you can just tack it on each location mark then the instructions will normally give you a weld sequence to avoid any distortion as well
