Had a play with the welder tonight, got the 1.2 wire setup, it's not perfect yet:
These welds where running apron 21.2v and 210a
Please criticise, the wirefeed was a bit spluttery, need to look at that a bit more.

Had a bit more play with the welder tonight, the wire feed still needs a bit of tweaking, it always requires a bit of setup when changing wire size due to it only being a 2 roller drive.
I've got all the steel cut for the frame now, so should have some good progress tomorrow.

First things first, got the rations in:
I have managed to get the first section clamped up:
I've mearsured and checked it I don't know how many times, I plan to tack this then tack the brace across the centre in place, then build the same again on top.
After the top and bottom frames are tacked identicly then tack the verticals sections between these before final measuring and squaring then weld the whole frame once I'm happy.
Dose this sound like a good approach or is there a better way?

Time to clock off for the day, getting gingery now.
Done some technical fabrication:
Seemed easier than the grinder
Got the top and bottom sections tacked up:
This 80x80 is getting hard to mess around with by myself now so I'm going to have to find some happy helpers to lift the top section up and slot the verticals in.

looking a good bench so far,
cant quite rember what mines ade of it was leftovers and bits orderd for a job that didnt happen something like 150x75 top frame filled in with 6" UB offcuts with 100x100 legs and 2 sheets of 12mm on top.
if i was doing it again i would have left the UB out tho and used box in its place.
best thing i think i did on it tho was make 50mm long cleats out of 50x50 x6 angel iron with a 13mm hole in the middel of one face and welded then on below the top surface of the box frame, the tabel top was then drilled and tapped and m12's going up through the angel cleats pull the sheets down hard onto the frame

i have 2 benches my old one has a 19mm top & i've cut 4 slots in one end for placing clamps thru ,my new one i bought s/h earlier this year ,i was very lucky to find s/h on e bay - 40 mm top 100mm box frame,i plan to fit a shallow drawer on u/s, but no slots this time as i thought better of it -planning on a row of m16 holes along the centre line frequently & make a matching clamping bar & a set of varying length hold down studs,then at the ends will have some extension plates bolted on spaced to give a 35mm gap for clamps.

Progress is starting to slow now, lots of grinding and the like. But I've done the plates for the casters to bolt to, 1 more job off the list.
The idea of bolting the top on is starting to grow on me, it will take longer now but in the long run may save a lot of hassle.

Either I was drunk or I found a typo, either way all memory has gone of the event. Not uncommon now for that to happen

I use pheonix steel, they seem to trete me ok for a big company and they hold massive stock it's very rare they don't have what I want.

Well it on its feet, wasn't too mutch of a task:
One of the castors are causing me grief, as it's catching the bolts when it swivels. There must be too mutch play in the swivel bearing. I was thinking as they are sort of riveted together if I put it in the press and give it a squash wether that would sort it.
Also got the top plate cut down, I'm quite happy with the job I made of burning it:
