Welder got nicked

My draper 70047 got nicked from my car....smash the window and got it. So know I've bought a 70049 draper model off ebay and put a 13 amp plug on it and it doesn't power up. Now,this is the bit where I'm having a blonde moment I know I've had a long day...but the specs states that the 70047 should use a 16 amp plug. And the stolen 70049 specs states (which I have just noticed) that this should use a 16 amp plug,but I have been using it with a 13 amp plug on it......thanks in advance

Generally you'll be fine on a 13A plug at low power levels. If your running it maximum the plug might start to get toasty or if its on a 16A braker, that wil trip before a fuse blows.

It takes quite a lot to pop a 13a fuse. So check the fuse first but the problem is likely something else.

A somewhat confusing post but it won't matter which plug you have it on, it should still fire up.

Your new Draper 70049 is a 120 Amp fluxcore-only MIG/Arc welder. With a rating of "only" 120 Amps, it will work fine off a 13A plug.
The fact that it apparently doesn't work may mean it is broken. Have you tried it in both MIG and Arc modes?

The welder neither knows nor cares what plug is on it, so long as it's getting power, which yours possibly isn't.

Start at the basics, check the plug you have fitted for bad connections, it happens to us all, then the fuse, then look inside the machine for any mischief or escaped pixies.

I assume at this early point it hasn't let the smoke out, so it can't be much.

Did it have a 16 amp plug to start with? Or was it a bare wire that you have put a 13 amp on? Was it verified working before the plug change?

Does your plug have a Chinese magic dragon fuse in it ? Poof it's gone . Out of 16 tested supposedly 13amp fuses nine blew starting up a Skillsaw .
I went and purchased some old fashioned fuse wire . Carefully drilled out the ends of the cartridges got the wire and sand out , kept the sand safe in a pre used ladies hair dye dispenser . Soldered in some 15 amp fuse wire refilled the fuse with the sand and then soldered the last end up . Problem solved , my clip on ammeter showed a 12 amp load .

Yes, but it is only a 120 Amp welder! If set at 50 Amps output and maybe 20 volts DC, it will only be pulling a kiloWatt or so.

well,mad as it maybe,I bought the same exact model from Rapide so as not to be delayed in getting the welding done....and I can compare and prove that the ebay 70049 is not working

It came plugless.....the seller states they tested it before they put it on ebay

When ever I see an item with a plug removed i generally assume its scrap as its been pat tested and then dumped (as most pat testers used to cut thr plug off to stop people using it not sure they are allowed to now a day's) or its dead and someone removed the plug to use on something else

I think they come from Draper plugless. Once I open the box of the 70049 sent from Draper (bought from Rapide website) I can confirm that

sorry i dont believe people if he tested it by putting a 13amp plug on (i assume but if not put a 16amp plug) 13amp plugs are £2 quid and 16amp are a 5er ish so why would any one remove it especialy if hes going to sell it as that would put people off buying it

yes I agree with you,being very skeptical on the "It has been thoroughly inspected and tested where applicable" on the listing now that I received it and bought it in good faith. I cannot prove or disprove whether they did test it
