Hello all,
I have a new crankshaft axle to fit to a British single motorcycle. Unfortunately, the original shaft has been made 0.013”oversize than the new shaft meaning that the new shaft is a very loose fit in the flywheel. The shaft is 1” diameter with a 7 mm hole bored through the centre. I am thinking about having the shaft built up using TIG and machined back to the suitable size. The shaft is 4” long and would need to be welded for 1” of the length. The material is steel but don’t know the grade but would think a higher grade carbon steel. My concern would be distortion and possibly heating effects on the steel although would be welded in a manor to keep the heat down.
The hole in the flywheel cannot be welded or a sleeve fitted.
Any thoughts on this?
