Weld sticking to tip

Thanks all for your help, I'll grab some 0.8 and try it next weekend. Is it worth going over the stuff I've done with 0.6mm or will the only benefit be not eating a tip per minute?

That'll be the main advantage. I'd not expect the weld quality to be hugely different, but it's generally much easier to use .8 on thicker stuff.

Swapped over to 0.8mm wire today, and managed to do the same job I was struggling with without problems today.

Also put the hot torch in some "Tip Dip" but not sure if it helped, seemed to smoke loads afterwards and be all slimey.

That's the point, really -- the spatter won't stick to the slime.

But the slime was dripping all over what I was trying to weld to?! Are you supposed to leave it for a while to cool down after doing it?

A bit of a shake after tip dipping, then time for it to dry would stop the drips. Drying time is reduced when the torch is already very hot, but it still takes a little while. I have some and keep forgetting to use it. Helps a lot in reducing spatter build up in the shroud.

I use a piece of scrap to put a few runs on to burn off the excess after tip dip.
