Weird Washing Machine

Sorry guys, another question! Our washing machine - and Indesit model BWE91484XSUK has started making a horrible noise when spinning (or just rotating in general). Easy fix - must be the bearing!

But no, it doesn't appear to have a bearing (as we know it Jim!)

Can someone else have a look and see if I am missing something! I can only assume the "bearing" is in the very front between the plastic outer and metal drum? Or am I missing something.

If it's a new drum that's £150+, so a new washing machine!

The bearing will be at the back. It might be that Indesit don't supply a bearing kit but would say you have to replace the whole drum !
If I recall one of our previous machines was an Indesit and that had a cast ally spider mounted across the back of the outer drum. This cracked and caused the drum to drop (like a worn bearing) causing rubbing of the inner drum to the outer. Fixed it a couple of times but wife got fed up being without machine so got replaced (the machine not the wife!)
It should be possible to look in back to see whats what.

If its like our AEG then its all embedded in the drum and you can't split it. Its a whole new drum, i replaced ours not so long back, 2 months later the control board went pop so its gone to washing machine heaven!

We've just had our whole drum assembly replaced in our Indeset under warranty as the bearing went. If they do it under warranty then I'd say it's all in one.

Looks like that indecent tub can be split then, our AEG was plastic welded all round.

Do what I do, chuck it outside and leave it for the scrap man then nip down to curry's and buy a new one for 230 odd quid fit it with new guarantee, job done.

as above any more than £50 on a washing mechine over a year old cant be assed in the scrapy new mechine 6 people in the house 2 days with no washing mechine the kitchen is full of washing

You get a 10 year warranty on Miele, but starting at seven hundred odd quid I'd be a bit miffed if it needed warrantying.

If you go to the effort of changing the bearing also replace the spider / stub shaft, the shaft is always knackered where the seal rides, without replacing it the new bearing is going to have a very short life.
I did one several years ago, it's loads of work on an old machine and I wouldn't hurry to do it again.

From bad to worse....

I had another washing machine that was tearing clothes, but that was sorted with new paddles and kept in store for a day like today! Worked a treat until last night. Starts to spin, then stops! Machine full of water! Checked the drain wasn't blocked. That was fine. Then realised the start LED was giving a code. 7 flashes. Motor jammed - not this time, it was free enough or no tacho signal - new tacho now on order or controller PCB fault (£150 if you can get it - so new machine!)

At the same time the tumble dryer where I repaired the rear bearing makes a horrible noise from the front bearing - a truly horrible design that require every part of a wafer thin steel body to be in perfect alignment and the second tumble dryer is blowing the RCD when you turn it on. I've removed and meggered the heating coil and they are fine!

So no washing and limited drying, just as we move into autumn.....

I think I'll just move next to a launderette!

your luck must get better at some point in time just dont use your new saw untill it does

was there any ruff bits on the paddles the only other reason for it catching clothes is if it the paddle got twisted in shape and left a small gap that meterial could get caught in

I gave up on fixing washing machine, again with 6 in the house, 3 day wait for a machine was enough, a month to wait for parts and fitter ! I even had a machine delivered damaged and they offered to have someone come out and fix it !!
in the back of the micra and get a local exchange, so much for saving my back, but the biggest issue I have is bra wires stuck in them !!

would would have said get me a replacment next day for the poor service but most now dont seam to care after they got your payment

I had a todo with hotpoint about what is classed as a service part in the engineering world, being inside a sealed unit.

They came out and replaced the whole drum assembly for half price or something like that iirc.

Cant remember where I saw it, but theres supposedly new legislation coming in to stop that kind of thing at some point.

Do what I do, chuck it outside and leave it for the scrap man then nip down to curry's and buy a new one for 230 odd quid fit it with new guarantee, job done.

Please don't leave stuff out unless you know who is collecting it, or you will be funding Gypsy and Traveller criminal gangs.

I dont know whether it applies to other manufacturers with sealed drums but hotpoint now warranty the drum for 10 years.

If you contact them for it to be done and get past the Guff about all the options for an expensive repair they will admit that they will do it for £40.

ours has play in the bearing so thats how I know, I had the argeument with them about sealed drums

There are a huge number of washing machines at my local tip , some of them are brand new looking but are too expensive to repair I would guess they have faults with the electronics, I've wondered if these machines could be converted to a very simple control with just a basic wash cycle ?

I got an ancient electro mechanical washer from the tip that is still going but if I needed a new one I'd be looking into this.
