Pre 1997 if my, memory serves me correctly, are copper, after that date they were some kind of alloy.

There was one point the copper scrap value of a proper copper coin was more than its face value.

My nephew actually has a business turning coins into rings, but generally they are special edition coins, or real old coins with some sort of significant date for the wearer.

Some lovely pieces there - I've bookmarked his site for future reference/use.

Did you ever make a double headed coin? Something I have seen on You Tube and thought I might have a go at but never got around to it.

That's something I've thought about too - 2 x coins [old ], a suitable holder for the 10-ton press and....

Care to explain how you can put a penny into one of those hand wound presses at various tourist Attractions and squash it into an oval with something else embossed on it then? Like these from Duxford?

It isn't your original penny that comes out. They are pressed from copper blanks.
