A Falling out with another member. Got a bit heated. Why was he moderated?
Considering his posts on here, I can't see anything he'd say bothering anyone.
If he just got fed up, that's life, but I still miss the expertise.
id be tempted with these ideas
Yer. Serious moneyI would think long and hard before attempting a rebuild of a colchester lathe. The price of the spares is complete extortion. Six little clutch rollers that would fit in a matchbox, over £400 ! Any of the gears or bearings inside the head and you are talking the same sort of money at least, but probably more.
This company, Marequipment, supplies colchester spares, have a look before getting too involved.

As I’ve said, the head runs like a top and therefore makes refurbishing the bed potentially worthwhile.
I would have no hesitation in re grinding a healthy Colchester.
Generally the smaller ones headstocks survive better as the mascot and mastiff have under size clutches.
It must be said a dogged one would be too dear to bring back to life and wouldn’t be a commercial proposition like rebuilding a big dsg
A Colchester headstock should last longer than the bed and have one regrind. A high quality lathe headstock like a dsg , Holbrook and monarch will survive many bed re grinds!
Blue diamond have peripheral wheel way grinder giving oe finish and accuracy and really know their stuff and to my surprise cheaper than brian caddy was!!
Unislide have a picture of a big lathe they rebuilt on their website as a show piece.
Well I know who actually rebuilt it and it wasnt unislide
they actually knocked the rebuilder who did it even though the customer paid them
Not trustworthy nor deserving of work
