Want a new tablet - suggestions please

Mum's just bought a Samsung Tab S6 Lite, she's very happy with it, it's a big improvement on her 7 year old Tab A, and that was a big improvement on the Kindle she had before it.

Personally, I don't know why anyone uses a tablet, I see it as an awkward intermediate between a phone and a laptop. A phone will do anything a tablet will do, but the screen might be a bit small. If I need a bigger screen, I'll get my laptop where I not only have a bigger screen, but a much better keyboard, usually "fuller" software, and a faster processor. The exception would be an E-reader where you literally just use it for reading, or a Remarkable where you write/draw with a stylus, but those are quite specific use cases. The normal, iPad style tablet is completely useless in my eyes.

Wife's using a kindle scribe for notes. Makes keeping study notes in order and searchable a lot easier.

We have a few Samsung tablets. Great for the kids education apps. Phones are a bit fiddly for them.

But I concur. Note sized phone. Then laptop if I need to be portable then desktop for a workstation

How many folk that have non apple tablets have upgraded thier devices to Carlos fandango status to do ultra complicated stuff, or is this just pub top trumps talk?

They can’t do one. They are doing very well servicing a market

They are a despicable company. Up there with Nestlé. Ten minutes on Google will show that.

You don't need to open up a pc. You can take it to any tech store and get it fixed. Try that with an apple product.

2 I phones, laptop and surface pro for work, laptop for home use - but rarely used. iPad for surfing the web - most used personal device I have, wouldn’t be without it

But try and get your iPad fixed anywhere but an apple store. .

I'm not a huge fan of android tbh.
But apple won't get my money.

Bit controversial but a chromebook perhaps. Love mine, instant on and incredible battery life. Also, very secure.

Never heard of Kindle Scribe but that looks good, I'd probably have one if I knew about it a few years ago, I always wanted to keep electronic notes at uni. I could type of course but that's no good for diagrams, it's hard to type equations particularly quickly and I tend to make notes with lots of lines and arrows. Not wanting to spend 500 quid on a Remarkable, I stuck with pen and paper. I did consider a Wacom tablet + a laptop, but it seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

I did look at the remarkable but with the extra for the pen then subscriptions for cloud access etc the kindle seemed the better option.

Doesn't have the same options for brushes if you wanted to sketch with it but it's very responsive and bug free. It's also being updated regularly so hopefully more features wil be added. Great for reading e magazines with the size of the screen .

I use Nebo for notes shares across apple android and windows.

Since buying my 2in1 windows 11 machine that's all I use now.

Since buying my 2in1 windows 11 machine that's all I use now.

I've never gotten along with those either, the touch screen only ever seems to get used for scrolling, and it does a worse job of it than gesture inputs on a decent trackpad. I've only ever used cheap crap detachable tablet PCs though, I'd probably feel differently if I had a nice one with a good stylus. At the moment my work is all CAD and spreadsheets/databases, so a normal laptop does it all, it would have been fantastic for uni though.
