Wallpaper, apparently 40 years is too long

Hello, for reasons better known to SWMBO, we are redecorating. Don't ask me why, the present paper has only been up for 40 years and I never look at the walls.

Question: are there any decent places to buy wallpaper? There used to be specialist shops that lent books of patterns. Am I stuck with B&Q, Homebase and the likes?

Just put up woodchip , mix a cup of white wood glue in the paste ,,,
roll over with magnolia at the end

it will do the next 40 years and then some ,,,, jobs a good un.
Failing that , dont forget about '' beauty board '' infact can anyone ever forget about beauty board.

When I put, " wall paper specialists " in to my search engine , the first one on the top left of the page showed an £88 per roll one . If that's not good enough or simply far too cheap perhaps ring 10 downing street and see if Carrie will divulge her suppliers & prices .
Seeing those prices all I can really say is thank heavens that 16 years ago I paid £ 4 K on top of the insurers award ( flood damage insurance payout on a hill ) to have all of the bungalow including the artexed ceilings reskimmed after we'd stripped off all the painted over wall paper & given all the walls several soft soap wash downs to de glue them .
Now all we need to do is select a chosen ready made or mixed to our preferences colour and buy seven cans ....35 litres of it so we can give all rooms a 2 coat rollering in soft matt vinyl .
Keeping a record of the identity make up & type of base & finish of the paint is handy , incase you want to buy 2 litres of new made to match the number touch up like we did when the new tripple glazing was put in almost four years ago . You can't see where I plastered over & made good after seven new 40 mm thick bespoke white ash cills were put in by myself

The joy of washing down pasted walls can be greatly enhanced by a coat or three of distemper beneath the paste

I can only manage the vinyl stuff you put on an internal feature wall or in an alcove.

I have houses with woodchip that must be fifty years old , and has been painted over that many times its nearly smooth

I NEVER take it off ,,, that would be no fun , the white wood glue in the paste makes it set like fiberglass

We still have woodchip in the hall, stairs and landing and the only reason it's still there is that it's the only thing holding up the horse hair plaster.
Unfortunately the puppy seems to think it's time we sorted it as he's now removed a few patches.

I just use a thick lining paper to get a nice finish then paint over the top.

Just dont use qickes or b&q paint.. faded around the clock in little over a year. Photo doesnt pick it up but it stands out, so we cant move the clock!

When we built our extension (large) 20 years ago i had to take a lot of plaster off walls that we were keeping or joining to. Plus their were ceilings to come down. I found multiple levels of ancient bilious green distemper, nappy brown 70's acid trip wallpaper, artex analglypta & emulsion paint, some of it had been covered over with plasterboard & some not.
I used a sharp narrow spade to get it all off & down & it took days & days living in a powered respirator.
Once it was all plastered it got painted with vinyl matt emulsion& that was that. Lifes to short to hang wallpaper, dont forget that you will throw a large percentage away matching joins.
