The 'butterfly' thing on the T5 intake sounds a bit like the ASO's (Air Shut Off), or 'Chalwyn' Valves fitted to some Genset engines (or any engine in a Zoned area of a Refinery, Chemical Plant or similar where explosive gasses could be leaked into the atmosphere and cause engine runaways).
The ASO's though (for safety, natch) had to be manually reset after being triggered (either by an event or by say testing the Emergency Stop buttons). I've been out to a couple of calls for the latter, when site staff have stopped an engine by the E-Stop, then not been able to get it re-started
