With lockdown for the last few months, I haven't had cause to use my T4 van. The last time I used it was to go and fill it up with diesel a couple of months ago (at least). I came to start it on Thursday and it didn't start 'on the button' like it usually does. I gave it a number of tries but before long the battery had cried enough.
I re-charged the battery and tried it again yesterday. The engine now spun over quickly, but wouldn't catch. Every few rotations there would be a thump as if the motor was trying to fire, but nothing was happening.
The last time I used it it was running perfectly, now nothing. Being a diesel I have little or no knowledge of what to try or do, other than get it trailered to a garage. Is there anything simple I could check?
Many years ago I had an old Transit diesel that started running like a dog immediately after I filled it up. It wouldn't do more than about 5-10 mph no matter what I did. I limped to a garage and they had to bleed the diesel supply circuit. Could this be something similar?
