Let's face it, most old cars were rubbish and rusted easily. But many of them have a character that you don't find in modern vehicles and that's the appeal.
I remember as a youngster that many people got rid of their cars when the mileage got to 40k - at that point a car was considered on it's last legs. A common feature of my childhood was driving to the east coast and seeing lots of overheated cars at the side of the road, or being one of them. OH and I even reminisce about the 80's when we spent winter mornings squirting Holt's Cold Start down whatever Ford variant we had at the time. I've enjoyed all the cars I've owned, and yes, old cars are a bit rubbish, but the classic Saab's have been the ones whose appeal has never faded.
