I've got that as well via the app, a thing that is quite sneaky is that I can program the spare key to limit top speed and other stuff, wife and 2 kids do use it, but I've never bothered.

I wouldn’t bet on it, once these vehicles are a few years old and out of manufactures warranty they’re not going to be cheap to put right, and it’s not going to be a job that most DIY’ers will be able to undertake.Was at a volvo dealership when their update system went down and a left few cars stuck on the ramps, was told I could wait, passed and asked for my fob back - not a mechanical key, but not an app.
Personally not against this tech at all, it will come and get more reliable and as said all cars break down for all sorts of reasons - this is just a new one

Car reliability has only been going one way for some time. And its defintely NOT going to get better.
Sadly, it now seems we must load up cars with lots of, mostly, pointless tech, which isnt tested prior to the vehicle going into production.
It seems that IT people are now employed by car manfacturers with the ineveitable outcome. IT levels of reliability.
Ive bought my last new car. Some time ago. There is absolutely zero possibility of buying a car that needs an app to use it.

Context - this is a company lease car for 3yr, 1 down 2 to go - would I personally fork out 65k for one? No and I couldn't.
Agree to an extent, mine is not app dependant as access is via a fob, not sure why you quoted it. Point being things move on, Maintain 3 pretty old VWs for the family they go wrong plenty of times, I also have an electric kettle
