With thin stuff, dont try to do it all in one run, stop, allow to cool a bit, then restart. Also aids stability when welding as you can reposition your self, so you can see what is happening all the time.

With your angle champher where your going to weld at the joint.

I’d kind of figured the short runs, stop and restart just to see where I was going. I hadn’t thought of allowing the metal to cool and now you said so it’s obvious, doh.

I’ll try the angle iron again with chamfers.

It’s all a learning process so thank you for the tips.

Another suggestion. Clean up your angle iron, and run a bead, at a mid voltage selection, and run multiple beads at the same voltage adjsting the wire speed each time, so you can see / learn what difference it makes.
You can also do the same thing, pick a mid wire feed, and adjust the voltage.

Try to keep your travel speed and stick out similar.

I first welded in 1975, and still learning, or forgetting not sure which

You dont really want to know how to cut and weld a motorcycle frame with pidgeon poo, it didnt even look good stoned let alone now.

But I did learn a very important lesson.....just because its not glowing cherry red, does not mean its cold when you try to pick it up!
