The definition of frustration......... Having Ya New multi machine sitting in the workshop and being told by that BOC that you probably won't hear back on account set up till Monday or Tuesday & I'm too tight to fork out on disposables for a few mins welding....... Big organizational lesson learned

Play about with a bit of stick welding for a while? Go grab some sticks from your local & maybe an electrode holder (if you ain't got one)

i got some old sticks from when i started with a arc welder.
1.6,2.5 and 3.2. wonder if they still any good.

i remember one year i gave my mates boy one as a sparkler, he tried for ages to light it LOL

I've got some my old girls grandad gave me he'd had 20 yrs plus fewins in a rod heater they worked fine lol

I'd liked to have seen ya lad try to light them that's just cruel hehe

They should still work provided the wire isn't rusty and the flux is intact, the only question can be whether they're dry enough (damp rods still run but can sometimes be quite horrible).

Evening guys rang boc spoke to Charlie Taylor ( Stuart's off sick ) account all opened on the volkzone deal within an hr and now have a y size bottle of argoshield in my workshop ready to play.... Bottle of pureshield argon to follow in a few days .....

Current prices are argoshield universal
£39.45 per year rental
£37.82 gas
+ vat

Currently waiting on confirmation of price on Pureshield as the girl at my local depot thought the figures id been given were wrong.... Couldn't fault the staff at my local depot in basildon either, they were fully aware of the volkzone deal and were both friendly & helpful

the rental for the pureshield argon Y size is dearer then for argoshield.

so they can offer cheaper gas refill and no collection charge apparently.
