I'd hoped that sanctimonious doctors were a thing of the past.

There's still plenty of them around both old and young . I've heard that said more than a few times .

For 15 years in HMF I had to follow the acclimatisation rules . In the middle east it was 14 days of increasing your sun exposure , starting at 15 min every two hours then gradually increasing afterwards to working outside all day on day 15 every day , stripped to the waist whilst wearing shorts and boots with folded down socks .

One of my pals got skin cancers , made me think if I get any I might be in line for industrial injury support as it was beyond my control at the time .

What anti-smokers don't understand is that when that thing they love to demonise finally disappears, what pastime of theirs will become the new "demon" in the government's eyes? That tax income can't be overlooked. Something has to take its place. It's like watching Lemmings doing their last run, listening to folk harp on.

Have a look at the official government figure which just for the costs incurred to the government ...

There are zillions of extra cost incurred such a divorce & loss of homes unemployment , unemployability s, violence , theft etc etc . decorating /cleaning smoke tainted places and the annual collecting of hundreds of tons of discarded fag end & associated rubbish.

Similarly, smoking costs the economy in England at least £21.8 billion, which includes the cost of smoking to the NHS and social care combined.

If that happened where I worked in the 80's there was one guy who would have answered "Well I've got a 500 watter", but if pressed to prove it would reply "it's in the loft" it didn't matter what you had he would always have next model up "in the loft"

My stance on smoking is pretty strong based on some pretty traumatic life experiences but I wouldn't criticise someone I didn't love for doing themselves harm by it. Their body, their choice.
