I've seen some pics of that before, but they also did one with the bowden cable running in through one brake and across to the other brake .

I could run a cable so it pulls on the centre, like the one in the pic of yours. Maybe even make mechanical legs from each brake

A lot of people run it through like you say but it real is poor on top of that they struggle with such small pads too pass the mot, I've had to length the hand brake arm too get enough force and really yank on it at mot time !

I'm thinking I could extend the actual hand brake caliper arms, so they'd clear the diff body, plus give more leverage. Plus i'd be able to run the cable across as it looks like it should be.

I remember my old Morris rod, I made a 'multiplier' underneath, a lever on a pivot, to double the leverage on the handbrake. Radiator mounts and handbrakes, seem to be the most time consuming issues on everything i've built.

Voila, the deed is done. Extended 1" and kicked forward 1/2" to clear the diff casing. Now I can run a simple cable across the two.

The only hiccup to that is you need more travel on the cable. Can you compensate for that at the handbrake lever?

Yes, Metro is side mount, Maestro has flat feet mount.

Yep, handbrake is fitted already, bought from some kit car company or other.

The only hiccup to that is you need more travel on the cable. Can you compensate for that at the handbrake lever?

I will be able to accurately and easily adjust the calipers to keep the pad movement as small as possible, so should be plenty of scope available at the lever.

A little surgery, followed by some reinforcement.

That whole back end is starting to look incredibly convoluted and complicated, but in just a small area it has to mount the diff, four shockers, the battery, the radiator, the fuel tank, two silencers, a small tool box, as well as the actual 'bed' that goes around it all.

Adventures in the shed again. Handbrake cable I had laying around, the outer is cut to length and curves round quite smoothly.



Adjuster made out of a stainless 1/2 bolt.



Little adaptor made so the inner cable end neatly fits the caliper arm.



Upper cable end machined to fit the caliper arm.



Everything finally fits in, just need to find a way to put an end on the cable inner to attach to the handbrake lever.

I've used soldered nipples before, so would something like that work, with a fairly long soldered area, maybe a bigger diameter, wires spread a bit and filled with solder?

A 2" long piece of round bar, drilled, soldered, with a tab welded on the end to take a clevis pin?

I've used a couple of 'universal' hand brake cables before, with just two grub screws crimping the cable, but they don't look like a 'proper' engineering fix to me.

These looks the business, unfortunately I need an 8 mm clevis hole but only 3.5mm wire, all theirs seem to go size for size.

I used to use them in the sailing boat yard years ago, they were several hundred quid each for the big ones on back stays etc.
