Chaps, I'm going to be welding various thicknesses of steel ranging from 3mm to 6mm and possibly some 8mm, so I have loaded the mig with some 1.0mm wire as I don't want to keep changing reels. I've trawled through loads of posts here about settings etc, but I still have some questions about it.
Some say it shouldn't be used below 5mm, some say they use it from 2mm to 8mm, some from 3mm up and so on. Some say that you need to reduce the wire speed as more current flows through the larger wire, some say that it's the voltage that needs reducing, and then there are questions about the lack of penetration with it!
I'd be really grateful if someone could clarify the above as I don't want to make any mistakes.
I'm using an Oxford 240-1 and Argo Light.
