Uses for this ?boring head

I thought they’d be brazed onto the (centre-drilled) end of the live and dead centres.

Heat and temper don't go together. Stick them in place with some HMP grease.

Might it be a bit more rigid than a boring bar (mine is a small Dickson QC toolpost)?

Sell the boring head, get a carbide bar, it will eat anything you can throw at it in any tool post and far more usefull.

I do have a boring head, would love to use it more but its a pain to set up the lathe for milling work.

It is possible to buy Morse taper extension sockets that will allow you to use, for example a 3MT drill bit in a 2MT drill press. They are quite long, but in a drill press that is not usually a problem.

See, for example, 120-020-00500 at: https://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Extension-Sockets/Morse-Taper-Extension-Sockets . That one is 2MT male to 3MT female. They also do a male 1MT to female 2MT.

You just have to keep your wits about you when buying so you get the correct combination of male and female tapers.

In a normal drilling solution I've used them, and I think I have a couple of them, but equal sized tapers. For a drill press that would end up with an unfeasibly long distance to to the boring tip, and rigidity would be compromised.

You’ve missed the point. The arbors are exchangeable. You purchase the boring head and correct arbor together - or change the arbor if using a different sized MT socket on another machine.

No, I haven't. Agroshield suggested extension morse tapers, which I said I don't think will work.

I could buy the correct sized arbor, but that's not what was discussed above.
