Used I For Williams trailer advice

There’s an I for Williams trailer being sold locally 10 X 6 ft for what seems a reasonable price, 2 x 1500 kg axle weight, the plate says 2001 though, would that be a concern on one of these trailers, other than brakes, electrics, tyres bearings etc are there any expensive issues which I should be aware of, guys looking for £1200 but is open to offers.

Thanks, that’s encouraging, been looking at parts prices, brakes are not particularly cheap.

Does it have an Ifor Williams data plate? I don’t know all of the models they built but I’ve never seen one like that before, check before committing - the factory will help you confirm if it is genuine, brake parts may be dear, stickers are not.

I'd expect the data plate to be riveted to the chassis not screwed to a body panel.

Looks about right for the year from the front chassis rails, later ones are pressed steel. As you already know brakes can cost a few quid, last one I went through ate £800 in bits.

Looks tidy enough for the price, but I'm not convinced it's a genuine Ifor Williams... Genuine rating plates have been laser etched for at least 20 years, state the model number and are riveted to the drawbar - that said, I"m not an expert on what models were around 24 years ago, just never seen one quite like that.

That data plate isn’t genuine. That said, if it’s a decent trailer, fits your needs and is a fair price go for it.

That looks like a very old Bradley hitch (from pre auto-reverse days), but I'm not sure the coupling itself is Bradley, however I'm fairly confident that it predates 2001 by quite a bit.

Plus I'm pretty sure IW wouldn't be welding bits of angle together to make corner posts...

It's not an Ifor Williams - it's fraud. Run away.
If you get caught carrying the 'plated' weight, who would end up in trouble?

Yeh thanks for the feedback I’ve been doing some research, every Ifor trailer I’ve seen even old ones have a different hitch, there’s no rubber gaiter on that one, and the wheels, looks to me as though there are 10 bolts per wheel?
What I don’t want to do is buy a trailer which can’t be identified as buying parts is a right pain, @Bob said it looks correct for the year, if I knew it was a genuine Ifor, but none of them have a 10 bolt wheel, you’ll see what I mean here.

I know it’s been recently sprayed with a rattle can and the replacement floor will be good for a year tops, but for the money it would be fixable for not too much if I was doing it myself, but I definitely don’t want to buy a fake of unknown provenance.

I agree they are pricey….the floor would be a concern for me too, its Stirling board not the proper stuff. Its also been painted…why they are galvanised

There's your problem - I don't think I've ever seen a genuineGalvanised Ifor WIlliams sprayed. (The brake handle is also wrong.)
Spend an extra £800, and you'l have a better trailer, and won't lose money if you decide to sell.

When trailer shopping…there are other brands too…buy-on condition not make. Ive two Nugent trailers both decent.
