Upgrading an earth clamp

Had a search but couldn't find any posts
I just been given a Giant (chinese make)turbo mig 195. I think it's a rebadged wolf. I was thinking of replacing the cheapo earth clamp and maybe converting it to dinse if feasible. What or where does one find a better clamp and dinse??????

If you think it may be a Wolf in disguise I suggest you spend some time using the machine to check you're happy with it before putting time and money into upgrading the earth. It's a nice mod if you do it.

They seem like a great idea (sure you can get decent ones for much less) but be aware that magnets do not want to be close to the area being welded. If they are it can mess with the arc and turns what should be a weld into a horrible mess causing a lot of frustration. I don't think the magnets could really be used for small workpieces.

I've recently converted my Migatronic to a Dinse connector, I fitted a socket where the cable came out of the rear of the machine and then ran an internal cable to the front and fitted a socket there too. I then fitted a plug on the cable I cut off so now I have the option of connecting to the front or the rear and I am able to put the cable away tidy. I have the parts to make up a second earth lead so I can actually run two at the same time if needed.

I looked on ebay but CWS were just as cheap and I was in the area, they stock Binzel ones too.

A cheaper fix might be found here I don't know the prices http://www.magclamp.co.uk/ however, its not switched, and thats what you are paying for, if its not switched, they can be a right pain to clean off the "whiskers" magnets pick up,
and can be a pita to move.

As Mr Edwards has said, they can mess with the arc, I have no problems with them for MIG, but found they mess with the arc on TIG and MMA.

One is pretty much my permanent MIG return now. For small jobs, I have a mobile steel topped bench and just bung the clamp on that, sorted.
