The route of the pipe is right in front of the kitchen door. I guess I could put it through one of those rubber ramps that stops tripping over cables/pipe. The boiler sits in a corner, but doors to the hall and the lounge are on either side.
Unfortunately, I live in the sticks, I'm just about to go on Google and see what hardware (10mm copper pipe / fittings) I might be able to get in Bicester.
So, I'm trying to figure out a way forward that minimises further oil loss, without turning the boiler off and recognising that I'm probably going have professional contractors and maybe an insurance assessor passing through at some point. I think it's one of these "chose the least worse alternative".

I had to lash up a up a temporary feed to my boiler when we ran out, I pumped 25 liters out of the bottom of the tank into a container and rigged it up with some old cotton braided fuel pipe. You can probably get a few meters of that at euro car parts or a decent indie car shop.
Obviously my boiler is outside and a short run but you could put the oil on a couple of breeze blocks to get a bit of head.with 3 meters of pipe.
Make sure it goes through a filter though!
My next door neighbour recently lost over 800 liters from a knackered copper pipe run under the garden path. The guy that replaced the old oil tank and then her plumber both failed to test the pipe!
She lost 500 liters from the new tank then the plumber rather than testing anything just told her to put more oli in!
I told her to keep quite and hope it doesn't smell...
Edit: you can see the while plastic coated copper pipe behind the oil container, that's buried under the crazy paving in a length of 25mm plastic conduit.

Thanks; hadn't thought of that but if all else fails by Xmas eve! As you mention it, it's only 2 or 3 years since I had my tank replaced and those guys didn't say anything about the pipe, though it was clearly old and not plastic covered.

Yes; I suspect that 10mm is too big for brake pipe use.
Screwfix sell 10mm copper pipe and compression fittings to suit.
If you could find a way to route it neatly then you'd avoid any more hassle or expense. Can you take it further outside and then drill a new access hole? Often easier to do something like that than follow an original route.

A mate has had this, a service on his oil tank, a 15p washer not replaced, 1000L of heating oil into the ground, well filled up with heating oil, ground contaminated, DPC for the concrete slab melted, Slab contaminated.
Rectification to this georgian farmhouse and adjacent coach house, has been going on for 5 years.

Insurance companies being taken to court, it is quite simply a complete living nightmare
His son has not been able to live in his home for more than half of his life
I dread to think what the final settlement will run to but a conservative estimate runs to probably £750K and that still wont account for all the stress and heartache

My boiler is in the garage and fed via 15mm copper pipe run through the garage clipped to the wall all visible and no joints with reducers to suit at each end, all compression fittings. Could you rig up something siimilar to suit?
My engineer has advised that this would not be allowed now and the pipe should be external with an external fire valve, something I will do when I renew the garage roof.

And check your fire valves. (slider button underneith) We had a boiler issue the other day on one of our three oil boilers and the fire valve wouldn't close - it wasn't 'the' problem but it was 'one' problem and it's now been replaced. Installed new about 4 years ago.
