Look up "cavitation" - it's at the core of ultrasonic cleaning.

I was involved in doing lots of ultrasonic cleaning professionally and I tend to think the additives specifically formulated for the purpose are worth having. Check out Allendale.

Washing up liquid is something I would never used; it's full of salt and the nothing better for initiating corrosion.

I use allendale, chainsaw carbs and lawn mower carbs come out very clean

Most of what mine does will be with a mixture of distilled water, Isopropyl, and wetting agent, as it will be cleaning vinyl records and you don't want anything else on them!

I am however going to use it before hand to clean some other stuff, but that won't be it's main use. I may even buy a second one for cleaning workshop stuff.

Yes, it's ok, but not great. I normally steam clean them, but it's labour intensive.

Any chance of a link to the one you bought? I've often thought about getting one but wondered how much use it would get in reality. Plus it's just just another thing taking up garage space.

maybe a bit of both ,,, it was all I had to hand , but it certainly helped cut through the grease on nosepads ,,,
anyone who wears glasses ,,, please occasionally give them a wash under warm water with some hand soap you wouldnt believe what some people wear day in day out ,,,,

I wash my glasses daily while in the shower.
I am not wearing them by the way.

I got my.other half to order it as she has Amazon account. I'll see if she still has the link.
They only had 3 though.
Maybe once a a month or two there will be a 10l one for just over £100 on there though. Normally this size is about £160 minimum.

@Kram is usually the guy to find the bargains but I was only thinking yesterday I had not seen him lately.

This is the degreaser I've been using recently. It's very good, but you REALLY do need gloves! I'm not normally a gloves person, but this pull all the oils out your skin and makes it feel like you have fake plastic hands!

Done a couple of bits in the ultrasonic, I guess I put maybe 100ml of this in, and 6l of hot water.
10 mins and it's got stuff spotless.

This was the state of the water before I put these couple of bits in.

The parts had been gone over with gunk, a jetwash, and a wire wheel before hand too.
It's even getting old paint off!

I'm impressed. I'm never manually cleaning anything again!

Why didn't I buy one years ago!!

My advice to everyone is, but one. Buy the biggest one you can afford.

The lathe foot, half had been in, half had been out. Even the knotty wheel wasn't taking the old red primer and remains of the high build filler off.

Not used "Cossack" for many years. Not got anything to use it on in any case.

Mine always end up looking like Vaseline has been smeared on the lenses. After I have cleaned them, I wander round singing "I can see clearly now" (Johnny Nash)

Thats impressive. I use electrolysis at the moment, but that has its limitations. Might have to get one !

Most of the ultrasonic cleaners available seem to be digital. If you were just doing car parts or cleaning your specs is there any big disadvantage to the old school ones with knobs for controls? Seems like less to go wrong really.

I agree, less to go wrong. If o could have found a cheap one with dials, I would have bought it.

However, looking inside this it seems pretty simple. Only thing that's likely to go wrong is the momentary switches may fail. Bit theybare cheap and easy to replace.
