@bricol do you think these low cost home ultrasonic cleaners are powerful enough to have any significant effect? I do get a good result from mine sometimes, when I put in a greasy part it comes out clean. But when I put in my Weber carb I didn't really see any effect.

Afraid I don't know - I've never seen or used one. I would think they work ok-ish on smaller, lighter components - anything with a bit of mass to absorb the energy, and the effect would be less.

I was used to industrial ones 20 yrs ago - there was enough power in the ultraonsics to warm, even heat, the solution in the tank. Don't forget, much like doing the dishes, if you dump a stone cold object into a bath of hot water, a lot of heat energy goes into heating the component up. With clean solution, you could lower a contaminated component/rack of components into the tank and watch the dirt start to lift off when you switched the ultrasonics on. The "buzzing" used to tell you a lot - the sound changed as the liquid de-gassed, as the components went in, came out, the liquid got contaminated, if the transducers were damaged etc. With clean solution, you could see the effect of the "waves" of energy into the liquid.

Biggest tank I worked on was 5000 litres, two of them, side by side. Considerable power of ultrasonic immersibles hung on the sides. Stillages of heavy components being lowered in by auto-cranes.

Thing to remember - you need to leave the tank, the solution and the components alone, don't keep disturbing them. Keep sloshing the tank around and the effect is lost. Leave it, go turn it after a decent time to expose another face to the working surface, submerse another bit of the part.

My little L&R tank warms up just from the ultrasonics, it's slow though, I fill it from the kettle if can be bothered.

this is the result from last nights

they both came out much the same with carb solution and vinegar solution at 60-65 degC.

i was expecting better but there clean i guess.

I got one and tried it yesterday and today, not amazing but cleaned the carbs. What i found though the heating process is slow, i got the 10l tank digital version. I got it upto 40deg on a 70deg setting and even after removing 3 litres and boiling the fluid and adding it back to the tank at 40deg it only moved the temp up 5deg.
How do you find the heating as in time etc.

It's a grey area. I can understand it when you get people joing just to post links to their business.
Then you have active members with existing business/expertise who can be very helpful to members.

Just throwing this out there. I wonder if their is an opportunity to create a new type of member.
Perhaps a business member. Like the Forum supporter but at say 20 quid per year where they can post a link to their business once per month.

Just a thought after having the worst weekend for ages and needing to chill out for a day catching up...lol
