Hi.
Nearly run out of metal cutting discs,
I use the 3mm ones .
Noticed the other day the ultra slim ones they look a bit flimsy they mainly for thin guage stuff or what
anyone use them regularly and like em, dislike em ?

Slitting or plasma discs, yes, use them regularly and they are great for thicker material too, but you do need a steady hand to use them on thick stuff.

Lots, inc me, use the 1mm or .8mm with no problems - excellent results.

I only use 1mm cutting discs on my 115mm grinder provided you don't bend or twist the disc I've never had a problem. Normally cut anything up to 2mm thick with these.

I use the 1mm cutting discs all the time however they do like to explode sometimes so i recommend always having the guard on the grinder and wear a full face mask like this

I get my 3mmm from work and they get used for rough ready stuff.

But the 1mm ones I use for cutting everything.
Thick to thin alloy copper and ferrous.

I use the 1mm discs...brilliant little items...great for thin materials...I use them on thick stuff to.5mm 10mm ect...when using on thick metals just make sure you have a firm steady grip as they can shatter with a slight movement...Face shield is recommended as said above.

no point in using the thick ones. u pay more and make the grinder work harder cutting more metal than necessary

Health & safety "advise" 1mm and below disc are kept dry before use and in stowage.

I think the early ones were prone to getting damp and then letting go when in use.

That is only a guess, I never had one explode unless I was being a Muppet when using it.

9 times out of 10 this is the reason it happens i'd always advise wearing a full face when cutting metal in any way as its so easy to get a bit in your eye but not so easy to get it out.

I have and use safety googles. Not worth it.

1mm cutting disks for me too, much easier for cutting than the 3mm one's, I've gone for the 1.8mm cutting discs, or something like that, for the 9inch grinder as well.
With a bit of practice and care you can get some fairly nice straight cuts with the thinner discs.

Thin discs are the way forward. With care and practice they are good for most things. Ive cut 6mm plate with mine

Its a Honeywell 1011623 Bionic Face Shield, i think i got it off amazon for about £20

Make sue you get the right one. There are two models, one mainly for chemicals and one with a polycarbonate face shield for impact protection, you want the latter, the former isnt very tough.
