Yes that's a possible scenario. But I will happily assume that there's enough unplated vehicles on the road that the agent or officer knows what to do and if they don't then when they check in their superior will know. When I've been stopped for complex issues e.g. driving with one wheel that's an odd size to the other three, when the cops " checked in" their advisor knew exactly what the law was. When I used to watch too many police reality shows it was exactly the same. They have a system. And this scenario of unplated vehicles is not uncommon at all.But, at a roadside stop:
They stop you, say it doesn't look right.
You say it's fine.
They check in, person at the other end says they're not sure.
You argue.
They impound your vehicle while 'checks are made' which takes 17 weeks. This is done because they wouldn't want to allow you to continue committing a possible offence.
What are you going to do, fisticuffs?
