That’s no too bad, a traditional tumble dryer on a current standard rate is almost a £1 an hour!

We dry all our laundry in a room with MVHR. Seems to work well and maintain a good RH. Expensive to install but cheap to run.
Hmm, I've been to Slovenia. It's quite a bit more continental than here. You might be able to freeze dry laundry but that's not going to fly in the damp UK! Half the winter it's 100% humidity and drizzling. The other half it's raining.

Try sleeping in damp bedding, or wearing damp clothes you will soon realise that tumble driers are worth it.

Miele heat pump driers use about half the electric per dry cycle. They save money but if you require fast burn the clothes dry then these are not for you, they take about twice as long to dry clothes. an upside of this is the filters don't require cleaning as often, and that fluff is damaged clothes. Also you don't need an outside wall but you do need a drain for the condensed water. The clothes come out luke warm. I changed the drum sensor brushes at 8 years old which are easy to do on top. The mid range models have a sub frame assembly and probably made in Germany not Poland. You can buy Miele direct from their UK distribution and they sell seconds sometimes. They are noisier because of the brush sensor.

I think fridges and freezers can be expensive to run....because they're on all a lot of the time.....worth checking.

anything bottled gas is now expensive for refills even natural gas
Plus one for the extra spin before you get it out the washing machine, it makes a big difference if you can spin it fast.
Then we hang ours on an airer in the spare bedroom before we go to work, shut the door and run the dehumidifier for a couple of hours and it's dry, with no moisture or damp problems, by the time I get home again.
From about March - Oct it's outside on the line. Even if it doesn't fully dry, it doesn't take much to finish it off on the airer.
Its rare to see anyone else drying washing outside around here though. so we're definitely in the minority for not having a tumble drier.

@Brad93 if I'm correct you are using about 14 units of electricity per day. I've just checked and found that's what we use.
Our electric shower gets used 4 times a day. The washing machine and tumble dryer are used about every other day. The dishwasher is used once a day. We cook on electric. Gas central heating but we burn a lot of wood in the lounge fireplace. Wife and kids never turn lights off, but I'm not much bothered. Equally, I'd rather throw washing in the condensing tumble dryer than spend all my time pegging stuff out and bringing it in, which isn't viable anyway due to work commitments of me and my wife.
I can put a clamp meter on the tumble dryer if you are interested, but my view is it's not wasted heat if it returns to the house.

I couldn't do that even if I wanted to. It's not realistic to hang washing out in the morning before dropping kids off at school breakfast club, and then bring it back in, in the dark, in the evening. I'd rather spend a few pence on electricity.

We don't have a tumble drier...we use one of those vertical hot dog dryers (dunno what their official name is!). I don't know if it saves any electricity...we do it to reduce damage to the clothes...just hang them on hangers and switch on the fan!

Before the Miele we had two white knight gas dryers which generated a lot of fluff which managed to pass through the filter. They needed quite a lot of maintenance (drum bearings and cleaning) as you would expect because they were cheap at £250 (about 10 years ago). The clothes came out hot and creased so needed ironing. Miele at 3x the cost is well built on a chassis with the panels screwed onto it. My daughters Miele was purchased 2017 and has had no issues but it does not have a chassis and the panels support the bearings front and rear. What i don't know is whether the full range has changed to this design. I say it has no issues but she had the front inlet vent blocked with the dog basket and she rang me to say it didn't work!

Or you could use a dehumidifier.
I’d read an interesting article in Physics World magazine few years ago - some nerds rigged up some monitoring tech to their electric supply - ie immediately after the fuse box, and concluded that stuff on standby equated to about 25% of the electric bill.

When I was working out our annual consumption I think a big chunk came down to having 2 fridges...having one in the cold garage isn't really helping too!

That sounds a bit high but our gas boiler, dish washer, and washing machine are either operating or on standby.
I make all that to be about £30 a week in electric - don’t seem all that excessive to me for 2 people. Admittedly, just me here and that’s what it costs for both my gas and electric and I’m pretty miserly when it comes to heating - 3 or 4 jumpers first, and only then might I run it for half an hour (once per day..)
