Tube Notcher

I have used that Notcher very nice piece of kit,the showroom is only five mins away you can try before you buy.
You will be suprised how good the construction is of there equipment.
the other plus side is there not to pricey

I thought it was possibly a bit flimsy, with the hole saw prone to rattle around.

This is the kind of thing I mean, they only show a bit of it notching a tube Radius Master video but it looks like it would do the job.

Be a bit slow trying to notch a tube using a sanding belt?

I tend to think all american equipment is not up to standard but i must have a rethink on that.
Everything i saw in the showroom was of very high standard to the point i am going to buy a RM40 roll bender in the near future because compared to others it ticked all the boxes that the rest couldnt.

I would have a visit to the showroom ( a long drive for you )

Have a look on there website to see the companys that use the equipment in the uk & maybe contact them to see how they rate the equipment

A simple cam action, stick pipe in notch one side then turn round. only does 90s

Still not sure how sucessful the cut would be using a hole saw.

As long as the speed is correct for the dia of hole cutter and has coolant it should be good, these cuts were on 1 1/4 cds 2mm thick only used one cutter for the complete chassis and there were lots of notches.It shows a milling cutter in the pic of the notcher but I did use a holesaw when I made the chassis. The notcher I have fits into the toolpost on the lathe and has adjustable height so you can get it spot on. I like the look of the Baileigh set up but out of the price range for me at 2K.

As for making sure both ends are in line you need a Plain of Bend tool

.

If I have the need to keep both ends in the same plane I cut a piece of tube the same dia as the cutter fix to a plate and set plumb then slip the first cut on the tube into it, this can be fixed in position and used as a set for cut lengths.

I take it you need the notcher to be level as well

Aye! I used that set-up with the tube on my mill which was level anyway but if you kept it plumb to the cutter either in the pedestal drill or what ever you are using would be fine. On the lathe I put a piece of tube through the notch and using my eye positoined it level with the bed of the lathe.

I will ring the company that stock the Baileigh stuff in the next week or so and see if it comes any cheaper than the prices advertised on the internet.
The machine is probably worth a shot. We've a tubular canopy to do soon, so i'll test it out on that - 60mm tube
Probably make/buy a plain of bend tool as well. Looks a good method of keeping everything square.
I'll do the first 20 or so, then once the novelty factors worn off, it's the apprentice's job

J&L had the TN300 in one of their flyers in the past few months.

I used my lathe with home made carbide cutters, fast and very
accurate.
