I should add ghollan, that copper tip is where the welding wire is connected to the welder for power i.e. if you have the wrong size tip you will have a poor electrical connection, this would explain why you are so far out with the settings. When you weld is it a little erratic and difficult to control? (although my welding still can be even with the correct tip!)
