Bear in mind that Ash grows like stink, I’m not sure about the others. I planted a tiny ash cutting about 5 years back thinking it might be nice and it’s getting on for 20 feet tall now.

Whether you think the tree officer is wrong or TPO is wrong is pretty immaterial. He’s in the job and that’s what he’s said.

On the contrary causes water shoots that grow quicker and denser than before they were cut typically badly connected so typicall will fail easily

It may have been part of the planning consent that certain trees were left when OPs house was built. They’re usually TPOd to prevent future interference.

You can apply to have it lifted as they’re not always put on according to the rules and also things change.

agree but the protected trees was ash so should be replaced like for like

Ash is no longer being given as an option , presumably because there is no known commercially available ash that can survive ash die back .

At a former out in the stick place we owned I grew six from seed collected in a fallen cone & oven baked to release the seeds by me from Warwick Castle (?) grounds in 1994 , planted out the 18 inch tubs then when they were nearly four foot tall . Lost them all that winter when the grass bank they were in was set on fire by someone .

Once you cant touch the top of them with a hedge cutter trees rapidly become a very expensive hobby .

Managed to finally convince the old gal next door to us to finally stop paying £400 plus every two years or so to get the 26 close planted 26 or more girthed Leylandii on her side of the boundary totally down to a small stump then have th stumps cross cut to hold a few ounces of sodium sulphamet stump killer. You should have been present tat first year of me being here when she returned from holiday to find I'd cut the ten feet or more of them that overhung my property & read the recorded letter from me asking it she wanted the cuttings or if she gave me permission I'd dispose of the at no cost to her. She was like a bulldog chewing a wasp for several month but finally came and apologised for letting them get out of control .... at the time they were 30 foot plus monsters.

Not if you want pollarded trees or shrubs and the straight wood you get when they grow back ready for harvesting once again.

Birch support more species of insect than virtually any other tree. As a consequence they provide food for birds particularly in nesting season. They allow lots of light through with benefits to the forest floor.
"Weeds" are a vital part of the natural world.

As you say they benefit wild life including wood peckers & all to often in strong winds snap or fall to the forest floor and fed insects ..
They are OK in a wood from which the public is excluded .
Birch of 20 years or more tend to rot about 4 mtrs up from the inside and can be car crushers , building wreckers & widow makers plus the root system is close to the surface which is never good near a property & buildings as they take in a tremendous amount of water from the surrounding ground almost all year round thus affecting foundations and pipe work underground

personally id love people like you to be fined for non maintenance of your trees

the fact you want them on your boundary says even more therefore you wouldnt like it if your council bill went up to clear your leaves off the pavement area

i dont see why others have to pay for you to have a tree in your garden and not clear up its leaves

same thing with your tree causing damage to others propertys and cars if they fallen damaging them you should foot the bill in my eyes

Perfectly acceptable, additionally the trees are sheltered being in a group so are not susceptible to wind

I happened to mention to a neighbour that I was contemplating removing it and he warned me that there was a Covenant in the deeds of all the houses in the estate forbidding the removal of the trees.

Whatever was planted there previously , I don't think anyone will be recommending planting ash trees anywhere in the foreseeable future , as 'ash dieback' is running amok at the moment slowly killing all of them when they become infected. Surely it's more sensible to plant something like hornbeam , that presently has a long term future, which as h certainly doesn't right now. We have a path running across us and lots of dying ash trees , we have already spent thousands on tree surgeons, I dare say we will be spending a lot more in the future, to keep walkers safe. Ash are renowned for dropping branches when well, but with dieback this is only going to get worse. Yes the firewood is handy.

Can't say but I'd expect they'd have to be replaced. However it's nearly 50 years ago and I confess to not having read the Title Deeds at the time - that was my Solicitor's job.
