hi have just joined and have the dreaded cosmo 130 and have been reading the mods that some of you have done am thinking of going for the wire feed upgrade i`ve managed to find an old power drill charger from a 24volt drill the transformer inside is rated 50/60 hz 45w 7.2-24 v 1.2a I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this would be suitable thanks

Welcome Geoff.s Most of the figures you have there look ok but the 7.2 to 24v seams a bit strange Are the figures being taken from the transformer INSIDE the charger or from whats printed on the outside of the charger? If it's from the outside then it may not be suitable tu use as is because it is a charger and not a power supply. As a charger it will have a third connection used when charging. one connection is the "plus" second one is the "minus" and the third will be a BATTERY sensing connection. This looks at a portion of the batter under charge and allows or stops the charger charging if it senses the battery is charged. Might be worth looking round for a proper "power supply" can be off anything but avoid chargers due to the sensing.
thanks for the speedy reply mike can see what your getting and yes I did read from the outer case so I opened it up and inside there is the coil with mains lead going in one end and the two wires coming out the other side which then connect to a circuit board which is where the third connection you mentioned comes in so was wondering if I could just use the coil

As Brigtspark has pointed out the "transformer" (which is actually the "coil" device inside) will take the mains AC in and drop t down to the 24v BUT will still be AC. The circuit board in there changes the AC into DC and then regulates it and controls it for battery charging It maybe possible to mod it but it's more hassel than it's worth.
again thanks for the reply as I understood the mod you then use the bridge rectifier to change it to dc I was only going to use the transformer from the charger I was going to bin it as ive changed the drill just thought I might be able to use it if it was up to the job

The Transformer should have some figures printed on it Headach maybe deciphering that into a meaningfull info. There may be a bridge in/on the pcb of the charger or they may use 2 (halfwave) or 4 (fullwave) diodes for rectification.
