How well do the 13 pin plugs/sockets cope with being pulled about, time, road salt and general grime?

In my experience time, salt, corrosion etc far better. Cable clamping etc better.
The positive location by the screw action ensures perfect pin-socket alignment, so no bent or displaced pins and an element of self cleaning. The very positive lugs combined with the screw in feature means no fumbling about to align plug and socket. They can't be 'made to fit' by brute force!
Screw in and latching feature means I've never had one vibrate loose either.
No opportunity for a semi house trained gorilla to try to force the Type N plug into a Type S socket and visa versa.
BUT this screw in and out feature means they don't survive being yanked out by the cable. This could be an issue for you given how you have described some of your staff!
