I know we have a few famery types on here so any thoughts on this model please? are they any good? Its only for our smallholding so we dont need anything huge!

its a deere itll be fine. a farmer i spend a lot of time with ran those for as long as i remember and still has one today. i dont remember them spending much time in the workshop.

Looks tidy for the money esp as it includes the loader. I have a 2450 - had a few issues but parts availability is good and relatively easy to work on.

Doubt the loader will lift a ton, many only lift about 800kg. Worth checking. Price seems good considering loader and decent tyres, assume its only 2wd. How many hours? Go see it make sure its real and as good as it looks.

Same guy also has a 36 hp Kubota that would probably do you too.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was less than that. Our neighbour has Quicke loaders on both of his 100hp+ New Hollands and they're only good for a little over a tonne.

When my 2CX was down with a starter motor needing replacing he came around to help lift the G. Dufour mill into the workshop. He could only lift it by curling the headstock back. I thought Oo, this is a bit heavier than I thought. Once the JCB was back up and running I went to move it further back and she didn't bat an eyelid at it. Mind you it'll lift its **** in the air before the hydraulics lose power.

The Kubota looked good but a fair bit more wedge and a bit down on HP

Mainly hay making which is small bales, hedge cutting and general duties really, we have 12 acres so not huge

Thats one thing I noticed, not sure how I could free them up/alter the install to get over that

I had a case 695 similar vintage, did everything I wanted except lift a full builders bag with ease. And been 2wd got stuck in my muddy bit easily. Would lift about 750 maybe 800 on the forks. Not so good if you buy feed by the ton pallet.

Cant imagine it been too difficult to connect loader in somewhere else to get your spools back useable. Just be a case of T ing into the hydraulic supply line somewhere. Thats been done the quick lazy way.

Hydraulics on that era of smaller tractors weren't really geared to adding many extras, so the most practical solution was to simply run of the spools, as it's quite rare that you would actually need to use the loader, and the spool at the same time.

Whether you could change it, would depend on how much of the hydraulics are external. If the pipes are external, you could add a diverter/changeover valve (a priority valve would likely be overkill), or you could try and source a second spool valve slice and mechanics, but that could get quite costly. Other option is to change the loader valve block to a pressure carryover setup, but that would again get costly, and would be dependant on being able to divert the flow to the tractor spool valves.

My bigger gripe would be that the loader levers seem to a remnant from a vintage railway signal box.

As for the capacity, given the size of tractor, I'd expect the capacity to be nearer 500 than 800kg.
The limiting factor is usually the tractor front axle, as they're not really designed to carry much weight, so although a loader might be capable of lifting say a tonne, the tractor manufacturer will also specify a limit, and the loader should be de-rated to that limit when commissioned.

DPT someone Pembelton IIRC, buys stuff straight from auctions that goes cheep and moves it on, Nothing wrong with that but have your eyes wide open, I NEVER buy from auction unless i know its genuine dispersal, and have only ever put Dogs into them (most I add are newish machines that have been a nightmare) .

I should imagine sold as seen so do the due dalliance, They are old tech so ther be nothing that cant be done in a half tooled workshop which is a big bonus, and id imagine although iv never run deeres parts should be reasonably easy to come by, although not so much on euro built stuff.

The 6900 (mid 90s) was the peek of JD build quality and nothing since or before has really lived up to the hype, They hit a real low point a few years ago with JD engines continually failing with head issues when they were refusing to put ad blue on them, the reputation has suffered as a result.

i think people are wildly underestimating the capacity of a clarke loader on that tractor. i used aforementioned farmers tractors more than once to unload my lorry. ive lifted 900kg with them no problem. had to have a weight block on the back to do it mind...

@Blobber my personal opinion is that if it seems all good mechanically when you look at it, buy it. Run it and see if it does all you need. These JDs of this vintage just don't seem to lose money . So if it's a tad too small, you have something functional while.you look for something bigger.

We have the same acreage as you but some of it is very steep so I went for 4wd. It just happened it was a JD and of similar vintage to what you are looking at. Mine had no loader. I bought a 655c digger though and that will do those jobs! These machines are addictive...

We're flat as a pancake here and we very rarely use anything heavy when it gets wet/muddy! I'm not falling into the trap of buying lots of machines, nope certainly not, definitely not, nope not me

I agree. Having bought a wheeled diggerafter the tractor, I can see so many uses for a little tracked machine now. I will stop there.... honest....
