I had been quoted silly money by dealer and shops and got a brand new one with elecs and fitting kits £72
All EU rated.
Might be worth a look and less hastle than making and getting holes lined up.

I know the OP is a long term member as as such is probably a very experienced welder but this thread might put ideas in less experienced readers..... need I say more.
I was looking at my mates Toyota Surf 's WELL KNOWN factory made and approved towbar, yesterday that had broken where the bracket for the ball, joined the main bar, he had to have it repaired and strengthened, so to say that they are better is wrong.What you also have to condsider is it is one thing to risk your own life but what about any other unknowing traveller near or behind you that dies after being hit by the trailer that smashed into them on the motorway ! ! ! !
