Inspired by the radio two top tenuous links programme.
My tenuous link to a rock star.
The lady who runs my local Spar shop is the cousin of Robert Fripp.

I discovered this when she came to visit my wifey who was out.
Hideous guitar feedback at mega volume as she batters my front door.
'Oh' she says 'is that Cousin Bob'.
She was puzzled as I genuflected saying Robert Fripp is God.
I was the first person she had ever met who even knows who he is.
I buy my newspaper from her everyday.

Second Tenuous rock star link.
Sat in my mates cider cellar. (I know I know weird things happen there).
Freezing cold night. This weird looking oldish geezer knocks on the door, comes in drinks lots of cider talks a lot, makes us laugh, and wonders off.
'Do you know who that was?' asks Mike the Cider.
Only the bass player from Mott The Hoople.
Great to be sat with a legend and not know it.
Lovely guy, no airs and graces.

I'm not sure this qualifies as 'rock star' exactly, but as a very young fella I had a best friend whose cousin was the keyboard player from The Dave Clarke Five ...not only that, but his father also happened to be a camera man from the Candid Camera tele show (there was frequently a navy blue Bedford CA with blacked out slitty side windows parked outside his house!)

I, by the way, was also someone who was in awe of Mr Fripp ...even more so after he married the wondrous Toyah

Mine doesn't count as 'rock' either, but I share my surname with a certain woolly-haired squawker who was primarily active in the 70s...

As an aside, a distant cousin of my mother popped his clogs just the other day: Richard Griffiths.

Our Maintenance guy at work is the father of Jamie Cook from the Arctic Monkeys, and Jamie used to be an apprentice at the firm.

Used to bump into Cliff Richard quite often. Does that count?
While having a bite with a plumber friend, guy walks into the restaurant looking like the wrath of god. I made some comment about sex drugs a r&r being the demise of many. Mate said you are right, he's from Mud (or is that Mud Mud Mud?) he lives around here.
Also met a girl who was a groupy for Gary Glitter, but best forgotten.

About 30 years ago me & a mate were sitting on Bell wharf one lunchtime when a very Hairy geezer stopped next to us to admire the view, he was smoking a large spliff & offered us a toke. Turned out it was Roy wood out of Wizard.

Thirty something years ago I stayed in the same hotel as Mick Taylor, who had recently left the Stones. He of course rented an entire floor if I'm not mistaken, while I lived round the back in the staff hut...
And Exile on Main Street is STILL my favourite stones album!

Mrs sees Toyah in Tesco or the Co-op in Pershore quite often and works with Lance Rockket's other half, ex-Wrathchild,

There's a "lad" who keeps a very low profile who used to be in ELO and Wizzard who comes to the local CAMRA do's...

Rik Mayalls Dad got me through the Amateur Radio exam when it was a real test...

In the mid eighties I repaired Joe Browns Austin Healey 3000 after he tried to drive it through a ditch, A real nice person to meet and a great character. I wont repeat what he said when we showed him the damage that he had done.

My God-parents were a milkman and his wife from Wallsend named Sumner, son called Gordon who later became Sting, from some well-known band or other.

I also had the pleasure of following Brian Johnson of that there Geordie, and ACDC, into the Earl Grey on Gosforth High Street once.

On a work related trip to Belfast, I greeted Badly Drawn Boy, Damon Gough, on leaving the loos, only to see him trying to get a guitar through customs later. My 'superior' at the time, and only a couple of years younger, than me had no idea who he was. He did have U2 as his ringtone, or was that some other superior.

\not quite rock, but you Newcastle types will know Brendan Healey. I was in his mams' class in infant school, St. Oswalds', though I did know the rest of the family too.

My next-door neighbour for ten years was Mike Hall of After Midnight, a Clapton tribute band which Eric admires too. Nice bloke, got me listening to more Cream and other Clapton related bands.

Did some welding recently too, getting better at making stuff.
