I went to the Ivor Novello awards for song writers and music a good while ago, a mate of mine was involved in an independent record label, future earth records springs to mind. I think we went 2 consecutive years, about the time that Kate Bush was at the top of of her popularity (I did say a good while ago!)

We shared dinner tables with a good mix of minor celebs. Errol from Hot Chocolate and Jona Lewie (stop the cavalry/always in the kitchen at parties) and unfortunately the guy who produced novelty records - i.e. the Orvil song I was talking to Kenny Ball (of Jazzmen fame) at the bar and called him Acker (Bilk) by mistake which curtailed that conversation somewhat

My mom grew up on the same estate and went to the same senior school as Noddy Holder (although not at the same time!) Frank F Harrison school, on the Beechdale estate near Walsall, so not a brummy.

Same estate and school which Goldie went too some years later.

Some years ago at a friends 40th my wife & i met a bloke who had once dropped huge bollock at a gig at the army & navy at Chelmsford.
Picture the scene, some rock band is playing & the bloke & his mate see a long haired blonde geezer sitting at the bar. They look at each other & discuss who it is. "Its him i tell ee" "No it isnt" sez the other one.
First one plucks up some courage & goes to the bar. "Hello mate i loved your band, bought all your records & you still get in the charts every Xmas with your christmas song". Blonde geezer sez " Who the ***** do you think i am?"
The idiot replies "You is Noddy holder" Blonde geezer replies "No im Robert Plant".

Now i have no way of confirming if this is true but if it is it is an awesome case of mistaken identity & very tenuous link indeed!

I'm not sure this qualifies as 'rock star' exactly, but as a very young fella I had a best friend whose cousin was the keyboard player from The Dave Clarke Five ...not only that, but his father also happened to be a camera man from the Candid Camera tele show (there was frequently a navy blue Bedford CA with blacked out slitty side windows parked outside his house!)

I, by the way, was also someone who was in awe of Mr Fripp ...even more so after he married the wondrous Toyah

...mind you, after just watching them on Mr & Mrs, now I'm not so sure

4x12 that toured with The Grateful Dead and Placebo lives in my lounge with an orange head. Graham Blyth is a personal friend. Worked for Allen & Heath while Richard X was one of theur flagship Xone users. Engineered many bands that have been in and out of favour (mainly on toilet tours).

That one's not mine though, I had to refinish mine with Purple tolex as it wasn't in the best shape after spending so long on the road.

Orange are the British amp manufacturers that were the favoured choice by Led Zep, The Who and The Rolling Stones. Latterly picked up by the Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild and The New York Dolls.

It's an awesome sound.
