Too Clean?!

My old man took his car down to my mates garage today to have his 2012 2.2d avensis put through its mot. Obviously passed, but didn't notice until getting home he had an advisory..........

I gave me mate at the garage a call to see what it was. He told me its the only good advisory you can get - no emissions were detected by the probe even when revved so you get an advisory for your emissions being too clean

It was also done with a SAAB in London, maaaany years ago [yes, I am that old...... ]

My motor has golden clear oil after 7000 miles after service and produces next to nothing - then again it is running on LPG.

i can get my 15 year old french diesel to give off 0% emisions if you dont start it

LOL...ime just being a smart ass cos i lived in California for nearly 3 years and my wife is a Californian

surely if the car is designed to emitt 0 emmisions it shouldnt get an advisory as all is good, i could understand it if it was supposed to register because there would be something wrong.
is his car supposed to emitt 0 emmissions ?

I think DPF's are a conn. They save up all the cr@p at low speeds and revs (and at mot time) and then blow it all out when you are on the motorway.

It's just moving the problem.

I cant see that been true, everyone will simply ditch the low emission cars

The test only measures particulates (black smoke) there are still loads of nastys in the exhaust
I have never even thought of issuing such a advisory
Most modern diesels wont give a reading on the smoke test

Aye but it is burning the soot off when it goes into regen.

Not quite the same as you are unable to finish the smoke test as there is no smoke
But something I would not do
