Not quite the same as you are unable to finish the smoke test as there is no smoke

That's sort of the point,
Can you explain a bit more about the emissions test with regards to diesal motors. what is it not emitting on fast idle that a petrol motor does?
I'm not a diesel all fan, its dirty crap that was cheap for commercial/industrial use. It does have more stored energy than petrol but the true cost to maximise that makes it overpriced and still unpleasant to drive.......
But the biggest problem we have is knowing what to do to the DPF. My Navara keeps going into limp mode if I boot it hard.. It has been suggested that I dont use a DPF replacement pipe as it will need a remap if I remove it and when I put it back on its wont pass its MOT.The test only measures particulates (black smoke) there are still loads of nastys in the exhaust
I have never even thought of issuing such a advisory
Most modern diesels wont give a reading on the smoke test
