Making ground (earth) branches, in this case a split for the bar controls and instruments. A splice is used to keep connectors to a minimum. Strip the wires, crimp with a barrel splice, fit adhesive lined heat shrink for support and to prevent water ingress.

It's pretty common practice for most manufacturers for pos and neg supplies to an area as it saves on cable and cuts down on body/chassis/frame connections. With electronic sensitivity on modern vehicles it also helps to have a clean point to point ground.

Run them back to a bus bar and it makes life a lot easier when it comes to fault finding, changes or additions.

I made a new loom for the DS. It now has 16 fuses instead of 4 and 14 relays instead of 1. There is even a relay for the starter solenoid to reduce the load on the ignition switch. New ignition switches are available, made from cheese and cost £350.

Top tip for anyone checking/prepping a bike for MOT.

Look for the horn before pressing the button, because if someone's fitted a loud one somewhere unexpected it may induce palpitations.

I had twin Fiamm horns on mine, while doing the MOT the testers Mrs was dozing in a chair at the back of the workshop until he pressed the button, she went vertical out of the chair

I can empathise. Because it was on the ramp when I hit the button even though it was under the seat it was pretty much next to my ear. What kind of sadistic ba***rd puts a horn under the seat?!

In my early years I was a motor mechanic.
It was standard practice to hit the horn button when one of the other guys had their head in the engine bay.
I think it was to see who could create the largest power bulge in the customers bonnet.

Bit of a dilemma on this 'new' RF. It's in better shape than I'd realised, only 24,000 on the clock, new C&S fitted, engine sounds sweet, decent tyres etc. The bodywork paint is scruffy with scratches and scrapes from a few years less than careful storage. Unfortunately they're worth four parts of bugger all considering how good a bike they are, so I have to decide between :-

1) Do the few bits, give it a full service and take it for an MOT and advertise it along with the SV650.

2) Do the above and keep it.

3) See if anyone wants it 'as is' for a light project.

4) Or try 1) and if it doesn't sell then 2) happens anyway or it sits about for a while.

I certainly don't need anymore bikes to use at the moment. I have the commuter and there are two project/fun bikes close enough to being done that a second/sunny day type bike is or will e covered pretty soon.
