The customer owns a field where he takes it and lets the grand kids have at it. I don't think it's seen any sort of maintenance in quite a while, the engine oil was like black **** which will have contributed to the starter clutch issues. Overall it's an expensive lesson for him in care and maintenance of machinery.
I'm not looking forward to digging in on this TBH. It's got a Power Commander fitted so heaven knows what's been done in the past.
I had a new RF900 back in the day. It was a peach of an engine good low down torque great midrange and would scream to the red line. And the gearbox was the best of any bike I've ever ridden.

They're an often overlooked and underrated bike IMHO. The suspension let them down a bit as it was to a budget, but the engine is a peach.
It may or may not end up in the Dresda, but it's a favoured option at the moment, but one factor in the decision will be the rebuild cost. It's got to be a Suzuki engine and it'd be nice to fit a two stroke but anything decent is going to be silly money.
When first built it had a GT750 engine, but as I don't often wear nostalgia goggles that's not going to happen because a) they're expensive, and b) they were bloody awful things.
