I needed oil seals for a type 9 box when the Sierra was still current - I'd put it in a Westfield. Arts guy in the Ford garage huffed and puffed as I didn't have a registration, just the numbers from the box. I wa snot impressed.ordered a set of rear brake shoes, to go with the 25 year old 'brand new' slave cylinders fir my kit car after contaminating the shoes with a weeping slave
went through the usual painful progress, of not having a registration number the factors need to find the right bit
the donor (sierra) is only 42 years old, why isnt it listed![]()

I had the same issue in ECP , I only wanted a Loctite interior mirror fitting kit, I had already told the spotty kid the reg number wouldn’t help. The local car accessories place just down the road didn’t need the reg!ordered a set of rear brake shoes, to go with the 25 year old 'brand new' slave cylinders fir my kit car after contaminating the shoes with a weeping slave

Next time I saw him, he was the greeter at the door of B n Q . . .
(Now of course, I would simply pop them out, measure and then buy oil seals from an industrial suppler at a tenth the cost)
Last time I needed slave cylinders and shoes for the Escort van axle in my Dutton trials car, I walked into my local factors and asked if he could get me some . . he turned, up a short step ladder, and came down with a box of Mintex shoes . . . said he had another still up there . . . I bought bothI was going through them regualrly due to oil leaks from the bearing - finally worked out the axle casing was bent and causing the seals to fail in the bearings.

Air hammer and chisel opens any jar![]()
Engineer.Heathen.
As an engineer I was involved some time ago (a decade? 15 yrs? time flies) in a project to solve just this problem with jar lids. Designed machinery to help produce a two part lid similar to a canning jar lid. Separates the usual single part lid into two parts - a disc with the sealing compound on, and the screw down ring outer.Engineer.
Any time I've used one it's filled the room with a fog of dust.and less dust using a vacuum attachment
Anyone heard of Sparky brand before? It was well priced and made in EU so thought it was worth a try VS the China screwfix jobbies for over twice the £
Akin to a breech-lock Canon or Pentacon lens?As an engineer I was involved some time ago (a decade? 15 yrs? time flies) in a project to solve just this problem with jar lids. Makes opening the jar a lot easier - you are only turning the outer ring, which comes up, allowing the inner "lid" bit to come up vertically - it doesn't have to twist the sealing compound against the jar - meaning it requires a lot less effort to open.
It is of course more expensive than a single part lid, simply due to having more material, and requiring more machinery, time, effort to make, meaning it's only on a few brands products.
