Well i just busted my balls shifting that lot. It took two trips in my car & my other half works not far away so came over at lunch time to put the last of it in her crv.
The Ajax mill is a small horizontal mill probably originally treadle drive? but has been converted to take a motor. It is a small bench mounted job but quite heavy. Getting it down a steep flight of concrete stairs on a sack barrow was interesting. A neighbour sugested being on the down side to steady it. I suggested it was not a good idea as if it started to take charge i was not going to hold it! He saw the sense in this!
The fobco drill is a beauty in perfect condition. Found some more interesting stuff as well.
Do i feel guilty? no, yesterday the council chucked a load more stuff in a lorry so i missed a small startrite bandsaw & a load of materials. Mustnt grumble though!
Sort out time now.

When I pop my clogs I'd be happy for someone to clear out all my tools rather than them end up as scrap, that said I'd prefer them to be sold so my family can benefit .... but if I had no relatives I wouldn't want them scrapped.

Its a sad truth that none of us will be here for ever, with my kit I would prefer someone to have it who would actually use it, not just take the cream and flog the rest on, Its one of those things isnt it, you either make up your mind well thats if you are in the capable position to and flog it all off so everything you own is in a bank account left to whom you decide or keep it and someone else then makes those decisions for you.ce la vie.

I went to an auction today and bought a few bits and bobs, the first lot was 2 boxes of spanners, must be almost a hundred, mainly imperial and big with it but a good few metric ones. Some good brands in there, Britool, King Dick, Snail, Gedore and some no names in there as well, there were also some drill chucks in the boxes, ended up with 7 in total, a couple on big Morse taper a couple without and the rest look like MT3 and all seem ok. The next lot I only bid on at the last second as there were no takers and I'd only had a quick look at the lot a in passing, it included some gardening tools which I've donated to my mates missus as she's into gardening and I detest it. So for the fiver bid I got a box of about 30 Dormers drill bits, more spanners including about 10 Britool ones, a 1/2" drive Britool ratchet and a pile of other stuff, some of which will end up in the charity shop at the local hospice and some in the bin, the "easy-outs" have been binned already. Then the final lot was 2 toolboxes with contents, for £8 I got a Mitutoyu dti, a magnetic stand, milling cutters, more Dormer drill bits, around 40 rat-tail files, loads of taps and reamers, more Britool spanners and other assorted goodies. When I went to pay up, the system hadn't up dated to include my last lot so I went for a smoke, as I was stood there a chap came out with a tray of stuff that I'd looked at but didn't bid on as I didn't want the books or the rest of the stuff in the lot, so I asked him if he'd bid just for the drill bits, he looked puzzled and said he didn't know about the drills. So I pointed the bag out and asked if he wanted to sell them, he said "yes, make me an offer" so I said "a fiver" to which he agreed, so I ended up with about another 30 Dormer drill bits and two Dormer stands.

Jezguz, a man after my own heart, went to oxshun(auction) monday evening, got a nice 12 ton hydraulic pipe bender, only one former though, as new just dusty, price for similar in machine mart £149, got out bid on all the other old tools and bits from the same house clearance, paid the princly sum of £13.20. Ye, missed out on an antique stool though as several dealers there so went for proper monies.Arther

Well i have had a sort out. Quite sad going through boxes of carefully hoarded stuff & being ruthless culling it into useful boxes & scrap. Scrap box is overflowing as a lot is junk. But there is still a lot of good gear.
Quite a bit will end up at the school where i work as we are so starved of resources (they had to scrap most of their gear when they became an academy!) so its a good cause, the rest will either get shifted on or join my collection.
Whoever gets to clear my workshop one day will be a happy man!

When I did my will a few years ago I left all my workshop tools to 'er brother.. as he always struggles to make ends meet with carp tools but it occurred to me afterwards that in the great scale of things our life expectancy is similar so it was hopefully a waste of ink, 'er indoors gets the lot and in the alternate my lot goes to a few charities, air ambulance, RNLI, dog rescue etc.

if anything happens unexpectedly its kind of academic anyway but you only really start to think about such things later in life or when close to you some life changing event occurs. In my case it was forcing myself into taking early retirement after a very close colleague died with a brain tumour.. seven weeks from headache to box and at 58 just a bit older than me.

What I would say is anyone who has a large collection and limited family, think about whether you would prefer your estate to go to a charity, house clearance chancer or worse - number 11.

I know what you mean. I work offshore and I have never seen such waste and there's **** all I can do about it most of the time as I can only carry on a couple of 12kg bags whereas the skips go back on the beach via the service boats and someone there gets all the good stuff.

Today was a good day. Stopped off at the hospice shop which always brings cheap bits and pieces, like these five files made by Nicholson and Wiltshire, only $1

I also picked up this P&N die. Now I have absolutely no idea what it is worth but the handles are missing, and I figured for $4 it was worth a pop. I will give it a wash down with strippers and paint it back into red.

I then went to this place we have called the tender centre, nothing has a price so you can just say a price and they agree/disagree, haggle etc. It's great and you can get super deals there...

Keeping in mind the nature of the place, I asked if I could get this and call it $30

And they said yes! I couldn't get my card out quick enough!

Just raided the scrap/unsalable table, for my efforts I got a tube of Loctite 499, 2 x 20ml Loctite 222, 2 x 500gm Rocol anti seize compound and 6 cans of WD 40. That's around a £100 worth. Also found a Thor number 1 copper hammer and a size "a" Thor hide hammer in with the bits from the auction the other day, not a bad week I reckon.

The paint is great quality, I use it all the time, normal price £15 per litre! The grey is perfect for machinery, not sure what I'll use the white for.

I've now got over a dozen Thors in a variety of sizes from the latest "A" that I got hold of, a couple of "1's", "2's" and "3's" in different combination heads, hide/hide, hide/copper and copper/copper and some nylon ones as well, they've all come chucked in with other bits so I haven't paid full whack for any of them. I see some number 5's at work now and again but I don't think I'll ever get one, they're a bit of overkill in a home workshop.

After braving rain, wind, and snow on a dark and miserable day, there was a ray of sunshine; well actually, a light that was switched on in a garage. Today I acquired an old Lorch precision lathe with a box full of accessories. The seller was only about three miles away ( as the crow fly's ), but a forty + miles round trip by road.
The lathe is painted blue at the moment, but I'll remedy that soon enough with a coat of green ( I like green ) after I clean it and give it a long awaited tune up.
