This popped up on eBay described as a vice.
It's an X-Y stage with Starrett micrometer positioners. No idea what it's for or what it might fit onto but for £30 delivered, I'm not going to worry about that yet!

Quite possible it was the earlier civilian market land rover forward control based on the series land rover platform, that had a asthmatic 2.25l 4 cylinder in its base spec and it was rejected by the military as not having enough power/capability to tow the gun platform they wanted to, which is where the 101fc design requirements came from.

Yes, seen a lot of optical uses for them, still yet to find a video or photo of anyone actually using one!
Meantime I have been hammering the seller on secure packaging. Don't want to find it smashed to bits inside a box of tissues - like the last set of DTI's I bought recently

about a month ago i was asked to destroy about 50 hard drives for a company who were geting shot of their old ( to them but not to me ) pc's, when they asked me what the charge was i said id take a surprise as payment and i was in no hurry.
destroying the hard drives didnt take long so id of been happy with anything tbh.
moving on to last week and i get a call to go collect my surprise.
a days driving and i land home with this FOC and in perfect working order.
happy days.

its a Hp laser jet 9050dn printer with a duplex unit on it to boot, that bit ( sitting beside it ) ill just have to hang around until i need it as its a bit too wide to fit in its new home with it on but it just clips on, means you can print on both sides of the same page, handy for workshop manuals and the likes.
there is 42% toner left in it but its good for 23,000 pages before it runs out mit says, that may see me out.
it ill print A3 so i foresee some laminated workshop charts down the line..
it can spit out pages quicker than you could count them, its black n white but it ill do me.
apparently its worth about 2k the way it is so not a bad hours pay.

In my eventual conversion of the Telwin mig to Euro-torch, I needed a torch (I'll get the other parts soon enough) and had a look today at what was on offer. I'd already seen the usual clones of Binzels and had nearly bought one several times, but today this Lorch ML1500 popped up on three-day auction and it was nearly finished with no bids.
Doesn't look used much, new tip and shield and £22 quid. That'll do.
I'm thinking that most of not all of the Binzel MB15 spares fit this, and if it was made for Lorch it would likely be fairly robust.

Re hard drive destruction , when I was at British Aerospace a contractor came in and destroyed lots of hard drives with a plasma cutter , they were made of bronze and we're about 30 in in dia , lots of security ,and after they were cut up they were taken away for melting,the drive motors were 1/3 hp, Windy miller on this forum has one now,I had used it on a lathe for a while .

Yesterday i was rooting through the yacht club skip & found a rusty starting handle from a diesel engine, thinking that might be handy i put it in the car.
Up at my mates yard to drop some scrap off & i see a big old twin cylinder Armstrong Siddeley diesel that he got as scrap from the club a while back, blow me down if the starting handle was the right one for it!
And then i had a root through a bin of scrap & found the following, A very small domed jewellers stake, a fine pair of dividers, a trammel bar for scribing circles & last but not least a fine woodcarving chisel made by Addis of london in the 1880's. All had a bit of surface rust but have cleaned up well to go back into use.
Fair exchange no robbery!
