Acquired the knowledge that a 5/16-24 unf helicoil insert tap is actually just a slightly undersized 3/8-24 unf tap so worked perfectly for cleaning up the rusty mower blade shaft threads

Essentially the same thread size and pitch.
0.03mm tolerance is nothing
Metric taps are oversized by 0.1 don't ask me why since male threads are usually undersized by 0.2 already from the beginning.

So you'll grind off the galv to weld then touch up those areas with the paint?

No welds,I’ve made joining sleeves,which will get galvanised with the rest of the fence(66m) plus two gates and a driveway railing.

Its that difficult to come by, it's even on Amazon! Admittedly at some stupid price. Mine as £1.99 25 yrs ago . . . and then the machineshop chargehand said he would have got me one for nothing from one of our suppliers - plenty of suppliers used to hand them out as freebies.

It's on my desk for fairly regular reference.

It was @oldbikedavey 's Tufnol machining book that @Bki26 was talking about a pdf copy of initially (assuming you're talking about a zeus book (and didn't cut your teeth machining phenolic))

It's got to be a pretty niche field though and I imagine the author is long gone, so not sure who'd be befitting from the copyright. I hope there's a library copy somewhere, though, just for posterity.

I see Tufnol is still produced, but what industries are still using it? I would have thought plenty of superior alternatives would be available now.

Finally got the mixer paid and took to my land.
Problem was not the money but the harsh weather conditions

350 litres drum
400V motor, all the greasing points looks well lubricated it moves smoothly.
And it's going to build my workshop

Got the hydraulic pumps and cylinders delivered on yesterday.
I'm kinda wondering about building an hydraulic press, because they have 20Tons capacity
All these pieces are OMCN, well known manufacturer and good quality components.
Pretty high price too, we are talking about 2000ish euro right here in the trunk, they only need to be rebuilt (pretty easy job and pretty inexpensive too)

Most likely missing the magnet...
Anyways it was cheaper than what I would even pay for the drill alone .
Send a message to the seller, but other people started to see and save the item so I'm spinning a coin right now, bought it not knowing exactly why.
It says it works in the insertion.

As part of my renewed decluttering drive, I attacked a bicuit tin full of old transistors. I found a packet of 6 new germanium devices.
A quick look on the web/ebay showed that these as tested devices, are very desirable. Desirable to the tune of about £45 a piece.

Okay, it cost £142, but it has a good resale value, and I've dozens of '50s and '60s germanium devices to sell off. A sensible purchase from my perspective.

Those Peak meters are great, especially for the money, we have one of their LCR meters at work.

We still use it in a few of the machines we build - I'd have to look up which ones and where, as it has been a while since I was involved.

I do remember some kerfuffle about it a few years ago - to do with being careful of the dust when cutting and machining, it's not too good to be breathed in.

My dad used to use it in the packaging machines he designed and built - I still have some lumps of it kicking about, as well as The Book, and various other bits of info about it.
