I bought some of those a while back, really nice spanners. One thing you do have to be aware of, using them in a confined space so you can’t get the spanner off, you can’t reverse the ratchet to release it.

The Halfords stuff is pretty good and they honour their lifetime guarantee

I wasn't aware of much trade union wise in the 70s being a bit young. But stuff I've read since just amazes me. Sacking a thief . . . And the union calling a strike is one thing that sticks in my mind.

I worked at Hobourn Eaton briefly, before doing my Body and Paint apprenticeship. The TGWU had us all out for exactly the same thing.

Edit. As a young lad with no responsibilities, I just took it as a free week off to go fishing, but I remember how a LOT of the guys there were all for it

I can remember fire watching inside series one XJ6's as they were having the sills and floors welded up when they were less than five years old, those and many other British cars of the time.

As was common with British cars of this era, the bodies were pressed and then welded together. No paint at all. They were then painted by hand, and latterly by robot, but anywhere the spray gun and overspray didn't reach, got nothing.

Hardly surprising they only lasted a few years before major problems, and much less for "minor" ones.

It was only spare parts panels that got a lick of primer.

My sister has something not much bigger in her downstairs bathroom (she's posher than me - I mean I have a downstairs bathroom too, but it's my only one, and as it;'s a bungalow . . .) together with a tap of such proportions I can get a hand under it . . . and that's it. I can't actually wash my hands in the sink as the tap is in the way. Wet hands, one a time, apply soap, attempt to wash off, one at a time.

The thing I read in so many accounts, Rover etc had a good market across Europe. But when you couldn't be sure they were building cars as yet again strikes brought everything to a stop, you bought something else you knew you could get. And then you realised the something else was actually pretty okay . . .

I started at British Leyland in 1980 when I came out of my time, I couldn't believe some of the petty things that would cause a strike. You went into work each day wondering if you would do a full shift or get the call "all out brothers" I always thought strikes cost double as you lost money (no strike pay) but still had to pay your outgoings.

It does seem ludicrous, but I suppose that everyone was at it then, still are. It was, and still is, seen to be a perk. But at what ultimate cost to the businesses?

One place that I worked at didn't have clocking in, people did their timesheets and it was taken on trust. There were people putting in overtime of 20 to 30 hours a week. A new management team took over and wanted to introduce time clocks, this was resisted by the union,( all of them fiddled the O/T). The firm then offered £300 tax free if we accepted it, I voted to accept it with about 2 others as I knew the firm would introduce it anyway and almost got sent to Coventry. The firm introduced it and we never got the £300 but the union bods were boasting about standing up to the company

But they would always start, and were much more economical, quieter, smoother, that the British equivalent tat at the time.

Yes, not arguing they weren't good little runners.
Problem is, they were totally unproofed underneath / wings / chassis legs, etc.
What makes it worse is many of them were actually deck cargo when being transported.
You can only imagine the salt bath those ones got.
Oh, and the steel in them was only about 2/3 the typical car steel of European models.

This was had at a good price, again bad packaging. The labels fall off these and will not stick back on.

Castolin Xuper 680S eutectrodes for basically free 14 euro
From my understanding those are CrNi rods and they can be used on practically everything cause they talk about drill bit cutting tools etc.
I just wanted the box, bought them thinking they were hard surfacing rods but later did researches and found out what they really are supposed to be used to.

Small taps lot, I don need them at all.

I've been thinking in those days about my oxy fuel kit...
I currently store my torches in a little Parkside soft bag but it wouldn't be big enough to store hoses, regulators, 2 regular Harris 62 torches, 1 Harris 62 180° head, and my British Industrial Gases (another Harris 62), my complete 43-2 and 49 torch, accessories for it, and the little 85 welding/brazing torch.
So first of all I think to have to many torches (cause I have another 43-2 set and a meter long Harris 28 180° demolition torch).
Anyways I wanted something capable of carrying few torches, regulators, hoses bits and stuff when needed.
So

I got a nice big(520x730mm) red (right color) Visa travel suitcase for the task (cheap and big + good quality and sturdy)

I'll make few modifications to it so it'll keep torches and accessories well organized and ready to be used
