Today I acquired...........

Today i acquired John's Anvil, he was my father in law & passed away about 4 years ago. We have been meaning to move the thing from their back garden to ours for some years but its a big one & goes about 4 1/2cwt. This weekend our son hired a van to move his girlfriends stuff as she has sold her house & is moving in with us for a while until their new place happens. As they had the van for another day we decided to move the beast. It was bloody heavy & we ended up moving it on rollers & up a scafold board into the van. Unloading it was easier!
This was the anvil from the Benfleet Village forge that was demolished in the late 50's. It is a wrought base with welded on top, very battered & has a bad gouge out of it that has morphed into a crack.
It now sits a quarter of a mile from where it was probably used for centuries. Quite what we do about the damage im not sure but im thinking to leave it.

Not bored of film photography yet, recently got this monster from Kayos;



It's a Kiev 60, shoots a 6x6 negative on 120 film. Olympus OM10 for scale. Weighs a tonne and I've got no idea how to focus with the waist level viewfinder, but it's got a serious look about it.

First car boot of the year this morning , it was rubbish I think everyone slept in anyway I spent seven quid

Aldi workzone vernier in a sealed box bashed down to a fiver and asked did he have original receipt , they've got a 3 year warranty you know anyway they'll do for my cack handed bodging while the mitutoyo is out of action

three pairs of pliers for a pound the 2 big ones wil get cut up but upon a little clean the 5" needle nose

are marked Lindstrom sweden

the joint is perfect the side cutters are sharp and the noses not deformed in the slightest all in all apart from a bit of patina a very nice quality pair of pliers , they will be going in the tool box and lastly a couple of XF airline fittings for a pound . I was back home in less than 45 minutes

nice , always fancied one of those penta 6x7 but prohibative cost per print...need to find a body really that will work (dslr) with my nickor a1 lenses .

You should be able to get an adapter to put Nikkor lenses on just about any mirrorless body. I think Nikon's DSLRs might actually use the same mount as their old SLRs so no adapter required, but I'm not certain about that.

Went to see an old work mate this afternoon ( his father has also passed recently ) he's been doing a bit of clearing out and I was gifted




a sylva vernier , S & J tenon saw , Kamasa 10" vise grips , Stanley 101A surform brand new , two little bessey 50 x 100 F clamps
a Stahlwille 1/4" ratchet and belzer extension unfortunately the ratchet has gone , and threepacks of size 13 hearing aid batteries and lastly a 30m 110v cable and one - two splitter
the plugs will get cut of the cable and it will come in handy for leads at the gun club , I'll try a battery in the vernier latter and see what happens , so in two days I've gone from one broken vernier to 3 ......

Them Sylvac verniers were the dogs danglies. I had one, lovely feel to it.

Swiss Precision.

Didn't need it so moved it on, i had a pair of decent mitutoyos.

What I can't work out is how the feck to turn it off I thought it might be an auto off but the display s been on since 7.30ish yesterday .

Not so simple my good man , their is no battery cover as such you have to remove two upper and two lower screws from the cover then remove the whole cover and voila ,,,,, it reveals a battery . no combination of presses of the only two buttons appear to kill the display

Put his in your search engine " How do I turn my Sylvac digital calliper off ? " there are several references that may help.

I guess it will go to low battery sleep mode after not being used for a few minutes . IIRC........ My early digital calipers needed a new battery every three to five weeks , three in winter when it was coldest .
