Today I acquired...........

A Megger. Been after one of these for a while, this came up cheap on eBay for spares or repairs.

Usual trouble, been left for too long with leaky batteries. I was expecting there to be other faults given how cheap it was, but replaced all the rotted battery wiring and it powers up and all seems to be in spec. Result.

I thought about buying a new battery holder but it cleaned up OK with a bit of citric, plating is still intact. A bit of soldering and hot melt glue and job's a good 'un.

Have you tested it on a small child yet?

I was talking about that with my mother few moments ago, just after making her get upset telling I'm going to buy a lathe this weekend...

you was lucky bought from a boot sale at fair moneys ended up replacing the battery holder compleatley and some of the cables to the pcb boad as well

I've just rescued my dads aluminium bodied, wind-up H&W Megger from under the stairs at my mum's not now her's house (exchanged today!) - seem to remember both my sister and I used to crank it to make the needle dance . . . no idea at all how to use it.

When a previous place of work closed down 20 yrs ago, a forgotten visiting contractors forgotten Fluke meter had been on a window sill for a couple of years waiting in-case he came back . . would have been criminal to have left it there or in the skip where everything else went . . . I only changed the PP3 in the back a year or so ago.

New to anti spatter question - does it matter if you spray over the actual weld path? Or is it best to try and avoid that when applying it?

Seven 1/4" and a couple of 3/16"

The 1/4" are needed for my Wadkin saw restoration and I seem to remember one of the machines I have in the restoration queue need the 3/16"

Never heard of it,only ever used “tip dip”. Not just cos I like the name .

I only use it inside shrouds and on tips, too expensive to spray everywhere and as you say, it takes some grip.
