Nice !A £10 fb marketplace find Its had very little use and no abuse at all. I'll still strip and restore it in the coming weeks and set it up in my front garage.

Some very good buys there. the brierley is a big one! This week I spotted an auction reasonably local to me by chance.
Against my better judgement, I placed some bids and won a few things.
The biggest problem is I have no space for the stuff.
As usual, there were no loading facilities at the auction (I guess that is why some things sold for absolute bargains).
Armed with my pallet truck, engine crane and a good friend, we set off to Southampton to collect the winnings.

I have done some pretty amazing things with my Chinese engine crane, but let me tell you, the poor thing could NOT lift a J&S surface grinder onto a pallet.

It did not help that there was only one lifting eye (one has been removed very recently judging from the clean area it left).
We could get the surface grinder about halfway on the pallet, but that was it. The lifting points are just too high for an engine crane.
After struggling for about an hour, I admitted defeat and I decided to go and beg some help from a local business to come and lift the things with their forklift.
The first place just across the road was Clarke Lane Engineering. I straight up offered to contribute to their beer fund if they could help me out. Luckily, they happily obliged!

It sure was quick and easy to load with a forklift!
Quick stop to check the straps.

As we already established that engine cranes won't lift the surface grinder (never mind off the trailer) I once again had to go to my neighbour with my hat in hand and ask for some help.
Luckily he was willing to help and he came over with a tractor to unload all my nonsense.

So, what did I get?
• Brierley Drill grinder

• Ace tapping machine

• 4 DB Norton fly press (payment to my friend who helped me)

• Startrite 18-V-10 - spares and repair. Which I already scrapped after taking a few bits off. It was just too far gone and stripped down for me to rescue at this time.

• Filing cabinet with steel stock, brass + bronze, nylatron and three titanium bars

Thanks!I know nothing about the Brierley really. Not even what model it is. It does have 3 x 3 phase motors (coolant pump, main grinder and then the small grinder which I don't know what purpose it serves). Might end up being expensive if they all need to be run by vfds. Some very good buys there. the brierley is a big one!
