Went to a local boot fair today, rarely have time to go; but, lots of stalls, loads of tat/dross -however, there is the odd useful item to be had....
The four boxes of Hokey Cokey Nitrile gloves for a tenner seemed good value; beaten by the two Record G clamps for a fiver. And beaten again by the 'yeah, it's an air chisel mate' actually a Pneumatic aircraft rivet gun, for bucking (need to be careful of the pronunciation on that) solid rivets -paid 4 Quid for that, bought it home, cleaned it up a bit, put some air tool oil into it, and it works perfectly...
After a swift clean up, the G clamps joined all their brothers sitting over the top of my welding bench.

Pleased you mentioned this. I didn't know Makita did one of these. I was looking at a Milwaukee 12v sander today but I'd rather stick with the LXT platform.

Went to a local tooling dealer this afyernoon after finding out the jaws on my 3 jaw have been badly ground.
I wanted external jaws too and figured if I needed to replace both sets of jaws, I may as well buy a chuck.
Caved in and bought this 7.5".
Paid dealer prices but it also came with the ability to freely rummage their entire stock when I need anything. Open access to a HUGE store of used tooling and a friendly contact is worth paying dealer price I guess.
It wasn't too bad, £140, and is in good condition apart from some grinder damage to the end of the jaws. I'll probably grind that out when it's on the lathe.

Cutting threads is something I've not tried yet but it will be one if the first things I need try with my new lathe. My old one was not really suitable for screw cutting.

Top tip, when you've been dipping your drill bit in it and it's full of swarf, don't be tempted to gently warm it up on the cooker ring so all the cr@p sinks to the bottom. Even if they're out they smell it when they come in.

I learned never to contaminate a tin, tube, or bottle of any substance when I was young. I always transfer a portion from a large container to a smaller more convenient container for use, but thanks for the tip, it is appreciated.
Edit: Thinking back to when I was young, my tip is ....... "Never toss a bar of soap into a gas forge." It will set off fire alarms, stink up a storm, and the kid will be suspended from school.
